Vegas won't render anything!

Hi. Got another little problem ;) Always when I want to render anything in vegas (regardless of the quality or size), the program says this:
An error occurred while creating the media file test.avi.
The system is low on memory. You may be able to reduce memory usage by closing other applications.
The thing is however, that I’ve got nothing big open! I tried closing everything, but it still didn’t work. So is my pc basically shit?
Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E4500 @ 2.20GHz 2.20GHz
4GB of RAM
Vista 64x
Any solutions would be highly appreciated! Thanks!

Wild guess; Swap enabled at all?
(does windows call it paging? i dont remember..)
Edit: windows calls it virtual memory. Genius!
windows key + pause brings up system properties window, go to ‘Advanced’ tab, click ‘Settings’ in the ‘Performance’ panel, brings up window called ‘Performance options’. Here, go to ‘Advanced’ tab, click ‘Change..’ in the ‘Vritual memory’ panel, report what it says there. (p.s. this is in XP)

I had a same problem what i had to do is go to options>preferences>video and lower the number of rendering threads and dynamic ram preview settings

Total paging file size for all drivers
Minimum allowed 16MB
Recommended 6141MB
Currently allocated 4394MB
(p.s. works also with vista :x)

Dynamic RAM preview was 350MB, changed it to 300, and max of rendering threads was 16 but changed it to 10 and it still won’t work..

try something more radical like max of rendering threads 2 and Dynamic RAM preview 200 or even 150 for start then if it would work with that settings you can icrease it until you find best working setting
i got it set to 150 and 1 anything more would cause out of memory error at 75 percet rendering done

i had the same problem u will not fix it its 9pro bug use old vegas versiom.
Or just install Vegas 10. That fixed it for me.
What I did when I had this problem was go into custom at rendering lower the frame rate from 59.94fps down to 29.97fps then go into the bitrate tab (I think, if it isn’t there just search around anyways) Lower the bit-rate from 320 to 256 or so that fixed it for me :)
edit: that was a load of waffle I checked in vegas later today and it’s in audio tab and you’re lowering the kbps from 320 to 256 xD

That’s probably not it then.
On a side note, it’s better to have a fixed size page file (i.e. use the same amount for both minimum and maximum).
General rule for paging files: make your page file as large as you’re comfortable with and make the minimum and maximum values the same to reduce unnecessary IO.

Tried everything, even rendering 1 and RAM 10, but it didn’t work. I guess it’s not that :/
What exactly are paging files? What do they do? Can anyone explain it in a good-understandable way please? :)
I’ll try to get 10.0, but I failed to ‘activate’ it, when I tried to do it a few days ago. That’s why I installed 9.0 in the first place…
sidenote: thanks for helping me guys :)
bump :x

Basically it means that you’re dedicating a bit of hard disk space to act as extra RAM.
Downside is that it’s way slower.
The idea is that ‘inactive’ memory is ‘swapped’ (i.e. moved to the page file) so that ‘active’ memory can be used through your RAM (because it’s faster).
Without paging/swapping/whatever term you wish to use for it, your OS would have to clear up ‘unused’ RAM (if applicable; if not, you’re ‘out of memory’) before being able to assign stuff to active programs, which makes your computer slow.
