In your timeline, you can see your clip.
On the right side of the clip, there is a little square (above your effect bar thing) and you click on it and a new window comes up.

He just needs to make sure the render settings are at 1280×720. He most likely set the preview settings correctly but rendered out at a 4:3 aspect ratio. Unless you’re meaning he should use pan/crop to verify that the image fits the screen properly after changing that.

hmm i just right click the clips in vegas and go to switches/maintain aspect ratio and untick it..
