It’s not a matter of intelligence, more of reflexes and/or the amount of mumble traffic at that time.
Generally, when people are pushing there is quite a lot of noise in mumble. Although it seems obvious to us, we are expecting a frag (due to it being uploaded) and we are watching from the spy’s perspective.
Basically, troll more Dummy :D

To be honest, dummy is right, there was a gap of time in which the soldier could turn and 1shot the spy. I am sure mumble latency doesn’t have anything to do with it. It’s just the opponents reacting very slow. And besides, the noise doesn’t matter, I think you can observe if your medic is down or not.
