Updating cp_snakewater

Hey everyone,

I’m chojje, the author of cp_snakewater. I was approached recently by Fubar about updating Snake, and when discussing it with Valve they thought it would be a good time to do so two years after its release.

Specifically, Fubar brought up a problematic sentry spot which rendered the final point stale in Highlander. I will try to resolve this problem, and do a complete overhaul of the map where I take any feedback from the two last years into account.

So my question for the competitive community right now is the state of the map in both the 6s and Highlander scene.

* Is there any particular area which is problematic/not fun?
* Are there any glitches that have been abused in competitive play?
* What is the general opinion on Snakewater in the various formats?

I’m really glad to see the map still being played competitively, and I’ll be really happy to take any feedback into consideration when updating the map! If anybody wants to playtest the upcoming versions, please send me a PM and I’d love to join in or survey the playtesting.

Great map. No problem for 6s if you ask me. Its a bit easy to defend last without uber, but so are most big last points.

Personally I think if there’s anything that needs tinkering on the way last is played it’s the respawn timer for the defenders. Often do you see defenders who died respawning and defending the point again during the time the attackers needed to get in.

I know a really strong sentry spot, not sure if it’s the one you’re referring to. Fixing it would takes only a very minor change. Will you update the map into a _pro version or will the official version also see these changes?

edit: No glitches as far as I know. Haven’t seen any strange soldier hiding spots either.

What doks said is also true. The map is pretty good and doesn’t really warrant any modifications. The flow, though different from other maps, is good and part of the map’s “personality” and not necessarily a bad thing.

Though I got a few disagreements with some bits of the map, I think it would be petty and nitpicky to voice them. It’s a fine map.

Fix the mid spawn so you face the door when spawning other than that I’d say the map is fine.

please don’t do any major changes to the map it’s pretty good in it’s current state.
one thing i’d like “fixed” or improved tho is the splash on snake, i know splash in tf2 is far from perfect but i swear with all the shitty little buckets lying around and the always very slight height difference between certrain parts of the map makes it much worse on snake
i feel like it happens substantially more often than on other maps

How is that important? It’s there for the looks, it can be a little closet room, if we’re talking about realism, to which tf2 is not about.
