Can I get a ruling?

Just wondering if using a custom resolution to inncrease your FOV beyond the fov_desired limits is legal?
Noticed a few match screenshots recently that are beyond the standard ratios.
Here’s one example example.
It’s not mentioned in the rules so in ETF2L it’d be logical to think that it’s allowed. Not that ETF2L would interpret the rules logically, so it’s still a good question :P
Disallowing this would mean disallowing the use of widescreen monitors.
I dont think its mentioned in the rules,so it should be allright.
most likely its ok.
how did you do that btw?

Put this into your TF2 launch options (you can change the width and height to your liking)
-w 1152 -h 720 -windowed -noborder
To calculate the FOV just put this into Google and change the width and height.
2 * atan( tan( 36.8699 degrees ) * 1152 / 720 ) in degrees
(shamelessly stolen from gotfrag nerds)

Thanks bro! Was expecting this one to get rolled out…
By all means play a 16:9 resolution on your 4:3 monitor, level the playing field.
I’m refering more to resolutions which are above and beyond the maximum field of view attainable using default 16:9 resolutions.
Custom resolutions are not against the rules of the league, however it does defeat the purpose of having a fixed maximum fov setting in the game somewhat. Hopefully valve can do something about it.
How did you get the black skybox? That looks awesome.
Just link the individual aspect ratio with the max. allowed fov ingame. The higher the aspect ratio, the lower the allowed fov for you.

Screenshot bug.
2 * atan( tan( 36.8699 degrees ) * 1152 / 720 ) = 1.75211619 ?
