Hello there!
I would like to ask some questions about events and specially those about the Cup.
1. Is there a fix schedule for the Nation Cup? Could we have an approximated date ? 1st Quarter of 2010 ?
2. Is there a fix schedule for the Highlander Cup? Could we have an approximated date ? 1st Quarter of 2010 also?
3. Could they become regular events like 4 times a year (e.g Spring/Summer/Autumn/ Winter)?
I don’t know for others, but my team is ready and willing to enjoy the regular season as well as any other form of fun cup. Thank you.
Have a nice day,
DeKa, aDn.TF2 Leader.

I would not enjoy this in the slightest. Nations Cup just finished ~1.5-2 months ago. Remember most players have teams who have active playdays 3+ days a week. To have 2 cups that occur 4 times a year, one of which isn’t with your clan (and the other that’s with your clan+more players, and doesn’t help your clan in the standard 6v6 format), as well, is a very bad suggestion. Nations Cup once a year messes up playdays for many clans already, so.
I hope next Nations Cup won’t be until May/June or August. Highlander cup also suffers from the same problem in that it’s in a format that’s not supported by regular clan play, so it should be something very occasional and not a standard occurrence.

Yeah but the highlander cup is more of a mess-around bit of fun. Most teams will practice/play that in their own time out of the usual 20cet-21:15cet pcw slots. I doubt the highlander cup has that big an impact on team performance at all.
True point with the nationscup though… it does heavily get in the way of schedules. Also for the sake of keeping it “special” and “unique”, it should be a rare event.
1) No, nothing scheduled.
2) No, nothing scheduled.
3) Definitely not.
Neither of those cups should be played four times a year, nor is it at all feasible. Think about what you’re asking, the time it takes to play the aforementioned cups etc. We are all involved in at least one TF2 league, and at the end of each season we get a few weeks break. But there are other leagues, other cups scheduled all the time :)
The Nations Cup in particular is a showpiece event. I do not believe it should be de-valued by being played every 3 months.

Yeah the admins should be more concerned on making some good maps to replace cp_well and gorge, then messing around with cups.

It is definitely less serious than a NC (as NC draws in spectators from public and other games, as everyone can relate to their nation rather than some arbitrary clan name) but if you consider adding a regular highlander cup 4 times a year then a lot of people would DEFINITELY have troubles prioritizing. When it’s a once in a while kinda thing, people will be more likely to just enjoy the fun cup.
Mmmmmm, I see where you point is coming from, however I disagree. The 9v9 format is a more hectic and less competitively friendly (especially with cl_1) mode, so automatically it is taken less seriously. The inclusion of less skillfull classes such as the pyro, engineer, heavy ect. make it a more laxed game (still heavily reliant on teamwork mind you). Even if it was done 4 times a year, the level of practice for such games would still be minor and at off-peak times. We have 6v6 cups now which most teams still take very seriously because of the format of the game, even though these are also rare cups.
I just wished that teams, every kind of team, could all be centered around here to make the TF2 community bigger.
As for frequency, 4 times was just an illustration, the main idea being: “more often” (more than once a year), and that’s all. I understand that it implies a lot of work.
Hosting regular Fun Cup may be considered a system to attract more people.
I think of Highlander as the “purest” TF2 gameplay and at the same time the thing that pub gamers could easily identify. Eventhough for most teams, Highlander is a mean to ease up a little bit from the traditional 6vs6 format. It can also be considered as a very fun and challenging game.
In anycase, too bad, and thank you for replying :)
Any chance we could have a highlander cup after season 7? Would be really fun, been waiting for something like it since I started comp TF2 (pre-season 5).
