So yeh.. basically iv had windows 7 installed for ages now and i want to go back to -windowed -noborder for convenience but i get this weird mouse smooth/lag/delay thats quite hard to describe. It only happens in windowed mode, full screen is fine. Im making a guess in thinking its because my RAM isn’t very good:

All i want is for people who have experienced the mouse lag/smoothing to say whether they have it in windowed/fullscreen, how much RAM they have (and timings if poss) and the OS they had it on. Just so i can narrow down the problem thats causing it.

Thanks =]

I’ve been using windowed mode for ages and had no problem.

I’m on w7 and 6gb ram, but before I upgraded my computer I had 2gb and I didnt had that problem.

Are you using a logitech mouse? Cos if you do you can download the mouse driver and disable OS smooth which is awesome for w7.

Nah iv got a Razer Deathadder. My mouse is fine in fullscreen, just sucks in windowed and i really want to go windowed.

This might help:

Basically, ever since I installed windows 7 Ultimate 64x version I’ve had a lot of mouse lag within tf2. The mouse movement just isn’t smooth at all, it’s like it’s being “smoothed out” and that’s the best way I can explain it.

I’ve got:
Latest Nvidia Drivers (200 series)
Latest Mouse Drivers (Razer Deathadder)
Acceleration & mouse smoothing disabled (acceleration disabled in control panel & registry + smoothing disabled in-game)

Tried:
Multicore on/off (default on)
Played around with video settings
Played around with window/fullscreen
Vertical Sync on/off (always off on any normal situation)
Aero off in windows 7 control panel
reinstalling tf2

I’m currently running windows XP Professional with the latest service pack on a dual-boot and it works fine there, these problems only occur in windows 7.

I’ve made a thread in the forums as well, if needed: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1039774

Thank you for contacting Steam Support.

Unfortunately I am unable to assist you with this issue. Mouse “feel” issues are hard to diagnose, and it appears you have tried all the common troubleshooting for this issue.

We apologize for any inconvenience.

All of this means that there is no fix, and they don’t intend to fix it any time soon (read the link on first quote)

@ kolox: nah, i didnt think there was one for windows 7. Would it actually make a difference between fullscreen and windowed?

@ Psyche: Hmmm, he got the mouse lag/smooth in fullscreen aswell as windowed. Iv only got it during windowed which means theres something effecting it to do with that. Thanks for the post though.

Can you feel a mouse acceleration when you are moving your mouse while you are on desktop? try moving your mouse slightly really quick, and then try moving your mouse slightly really slow.

If the pointer is not almost in the same place, and is drastically different, you got mouse acceleration turned on windows, that means that when you have your game on fullscreen, it takes exclusivity over windows and acceleration is off, but when you have window mode there is no exclusivity to the game acceleration.

So if it’s possible, disable OS mouse acceleration with your driver.
