Best medics?

I pretty much solely play medic competitively nowadays, and have been trying to improve for a while, but never have really know who to be looking out for when it comes to looking to improve from demos. I did watch Homicide, but I couldn’t stand the skymods and the grey filter, and the fact that half of the video was made out of pure blind luck. Don’t get me wrong, it was good, but half of it was so ridiculously lucky that I almost fell off my seat.

So I ask — who’s demos should I be looking at if I’m wanting to up my game? If you guys could name some good medics and link me to demos/vids, that would be much appreciated. :)

Thanks, and sorry if this is the wrong forum. Wasn’t 100% sure if it was.

he has frag movie, not that it helps in any way for how to play medic, but meh :D

imo, demos haven’t helped me with playing my class (scout), yeah for looking at new jumps etc was helpful but actually mixing and playing with higher div teams made me improve as a player and more importantly a team member.

Homocide isn’t a good example anyway, its just a compilation of these super lucky funny things that will get you killed 19 times out of 20. :P

I would like to see some demos of the best medics too. I consider myself to be quite good as it is, but you can never stop getting better.

Also, +1 to what Dny said. Applys even more so to medic. Playing medic is about 95% gamesense, as soon as you get to middle point, theres no set tactics for exactly what to do, just go with feeling.

funny things u write about demos… if ur new to game and want fast improvement, basically u need to watch 3-4 games and ur at least mid even if u play the game for 1 week….

play a game, watch a demo, play a game again, to see what u still dont know, watch a demo and find answers… tadaaa

it helps u to get even to mid++ skill… higher is just from game exp from high skill games and not beeing total retard

Watched his “I Am Ze Ubermensch” vid, again, I’m sure he’s a bloody excellent medic, but watching vids like that could mean just about anything. Seems very flukey — but that’s the video, not him or his medic playing. Any idea where I can get any of his match demos?

Quite. The thing with medic frag vids is that half of them leave me feeling “I can do that, and do do that” — it’s not necessarily because I am as good, it’s because it feels like the frag vids don’t necessarily denote skill.

After looking at the I Am Ze Ubermensch video, seems the area I’m lacking in is judgment in dodging. I do a good bit of dodging when it comes down to it, but that guy seemed incredibly nimble. I’ve got to do some work on that. :)

If you want demos, I’d wait a couple of weeks then contact some of the top medics in etf2l on irc (Don’t add them to steam friends simply because most of them wont accept you.) Just because to my knowledge this latest update broke demos again so hence why im saying wait. Also maybe try and get someone to mentor you? Even if its not a top guy and only like div 2/3 its still going to be better movement/tactics etc than you have now.

p.s I think the mentoring program might still be up but im not sure.

Would be highly interested in getting mentoring from anyone. Anything that might help me to get better at medic is something I’m willing to take a shot at.

By the way, Dny, were you in UKGL previously? We played UKGL about a year ago, and they had a guy called Dny in. :)

Yeah that was me, younger and much more immature and a really bad demoman, look how things have changed! If you wanna add me on steam I could try and sort you out with some mentoring or something if you want mate but that’s entirely up to you :)

Ye, this is exactly the problem. You can’t get gamesense from watch frag videos. :P
Im assuming PoE don’t play that much, so what to do is get yourself into pickups. You’ll get alot of ragers there, but just ignore them, the ideal pickup1 medic would have 5 medi guns that could heal through walls for infinite distance and have 100% ubercharge all the time.

Just try to keep an eye out for when you should be pulling back out of middle point for example, or when you should be pushing up. Stupid soldiers will always make this difficult, but you’ll get a better feel for it, then im sure you can get an invite to pickup2 from someone and play with people who actually have a clue whats going on.

Actually, we play a good bit, I have most of the vids up at http://www.youtube.com/poescrims if you’re interested in seeing them :)

We do a lot of scrims, but not much else than that. We tend to win the scrims, but I find myself coming out feeling like I’ve not learnt anything. That’s why I’m looking for some room to improve.

You play once a week-ish? Thats not a huge amount, Try playing a few times a week. If you play alot, you will learn the ins and outs of medic well and get better gamesense. Gamesense just comes from experience, so the more the you play, the better you will get at it. :)

Your team could use a lot of work it seems, add me on steam, I don’t mind helping you guys out with the basics ;)
