Now as weird as it may seem, I think it might work out here with several pros and next to zero cons. Just had a discussion about several things about tf2 and this is one of the topics that came out. Really think there could be a use of a ladder in the etf2l site, let me list some of the pros

Pros:
-Some teams didn’t make it out this season to the league, this would keep them interested and they could compete against league teams too in some form
-This would also mean that new teams would be easier to rank in the upcoming seasons and place them in the correct divisions
-Also generally it would bring more activity to already very active site and maybe interest even more ppl/clans.
-General awareness of what’s going around in the scene gamewise, which clans are hot and have improved and such and maybe worthwile to challenge to a game.
-+++ plenty of other pros

Why I think it could work out in etf2l.org is that the site is very easy to navigate, simple to use the admin pages and such. The site is already having more than 200 clans in here, using the ladder system wouldn’t bring much work for clans to register their pcw results there (if both clans of course agreed it was a ladder game). The reason why CB/ESL and such havn’t gained much ground is their site structure as I see it, complicated, hard to navigate and stuff (at least at start and that’s what’s keeping ppl away). Potentially I could see a pretty active ladder between ~200 or so clans competiting. Wouldn’t be too much far off. :)

Some basic ideas for the ladder:
-You could only challenge teams above you 20seeds but no limit challenging teams below you (This way lower tier clans could play higher tier clans if the higher tier clan challenged the lower clan if agreed upon irc or so, but it would also mean that top clans wouldn’t get silly challenges from low clans just to test themselves out)
-League & Cupgames would be automatically registered to ladder.
-Teams can choose wether or not to be listed on the ladder or not.
-Add ideas here. :)

While I am not a big fan of ladders, it might be a nice idea.

I kind of reject the challenge limits though :P

Normally it’s the other way around. Low clans can challenge above them unlimited, but you can only challenge to a certain limit beneath your skill, and refusing challenges usually means penalty points.

The idea is quite ok but the fact if it would work has my doubts, besides, will big teams participate init?

and what value will the ladder have if only low teams are init?

If we (the admins) with the assistance of you (the community) figure out as to why ESL and ED have epically failed in delivering GOOD, active and competitive european ladders and then work out a way to make it work, I’d be all for the idea. Admining a ladder is no different to running a league, infact after implementing it in to the site (HAI ST8) it would be less work and easier
