No players with accounts created within the past 3 or 6 months…
fairest of the suggestions and would cut out the riff raff
I don’t see the problem with people signing up to play on the server, as long as the server is well admin’d
not to reward the current community…
I think Wireplay would beg to differ. The “competitive community” is already far too big. Too many stupid 12 y/o’s thinking they can start and clan and beat TCM, Dignitas, etc,,, then raging when they get raped.
Just a couple of nights ago, I got a mix together (3 iExpo guys plus some other people), so ye. We go on #tf.wars, get a match they join up (takes them 20mins to get a 5th and 6th, was almost ready to get somebody else). So we play badlands, beat them 7-0. Then they say they want Goldrush, 0_o?
So we play Goldrush, we lose but in all fairness we weren’t really trying at all, just having a laugh as Goldrush just isn’t a competitive map. Then, due to the guy in iExpo who had the rcon pass going offline, we couldn’t change the map for a 3rd. So, what do they do? Sit for 25 minutes hurling abuse at us saying we are lying about not having admin (yes, not rcon, “admin”) and saying to kick them.
Im not saying we shouldn’t get anymore players, what I am saying is that alot of idiots are trying to get into the competitive community to “pwn” everyone and bringing a really bad attitude to the game.
I think the idea behind it is to get more people to sign up with ETF2L to get mroe into the competitive community, not to reward the current community…
Still, the new season will come and the max 250 teams will fill very quickly, with many left over.
ETF2L players suggested this and it’s a perk of being signed up to ETF2L, hence why I considered it more of a reward.
Gathering from some peoples comments, some of the people that have been drawn into ETF2L now, aren’t the nicest of people :(
I’m all for more people but still, a public server is a public server all the same, those interested in pub have probably decided that’s what they enjoy, or they don’t have the time to commit to anything more.

More people DOES NOT = more idiots, idiots come and go, what i mean is attracting nice people into the competitive community, of course some are going to be arse holes but they will just get banned (Thats another thing i personally believe the ETF2L admins should be warning for bad sportmanship alot more and then it would keep out the riff raff :p) Also with public servers that have alot of nice players it will attract people from other games because they will have a entrance level thats not a complete roll either way rather than anyone whos every played a comp game being able to rape random pubs and being raped in pickups due to not knowing the maps to well, with a public server that runs comp maps they will learn them better and probably get more interested in the competitive side of TF2 ;)
Well, it’s only been up five days, some small adjustments has been made per request (see the big tf2-pubserver thread). I’d really like a QBQ-rule (Quality Before Quantity). It was full 24/7 (except for a small drop when it automatically restarts 0400CET), last night it emptied to 0 players around 0230CET, so it might be on its way to level out. I’ll look into restrictions regarding creation-date of account, since many seems to agree this is a fair idea. I’ll also look into getting a ingame !admin command to make it easier to get a hold of admins when required, tabbing out and typing !admin in #etf2l is not very convenient (although effective).
An IRC relay would work for that :)
You could also have the auto-join team command try and make it balanced on map changes.
i.e. look up clan membership in the etf2l db and query the div.
Just a thought :) and not too tricky. (Well depends what admin tool you’re using).
i.e. look up clan membership in the etf2l db and query the div.
that part probably wouldn’t work that greatly. It’s a bit like pickups, the highest rated players are balanced out but if one of those plays a different class it kind of screws things because they’re not as good at the class they’ve been rated as. Again, with the odd few higher div players in lower div clans, full-time mentoring or other; a div lookup wouldn’t be accurate.
Though some kind of random join may prevent many clan players playing together etc.
Yeah could just have people auto-dumped into playing i.e. no spec jumping and waiting for slot on the same team as your clanmate who joined with you; and no manual choice of teams.
But also, even out of class div1/2 players are a step above the lower divs that make up a lot of the player base in etf2l (number wise).

Should of said more people doesnt HAVE to mean more idiots :x
I don’t really get why you would exclude people from the server just because they haven’t been signed for etf2l for e.g. 3 months, it’s not because people are new they are assholes.

Its nothing to do with that. Its to do with people signing up on etf2l just to play on that server. If you haven’t noticed, 90% of pub players have absolutely no game sense, or reasonable understanding of the dynamics of wininng a game. They just have the mentality of “LETS GO RUN AND GETS LOADS OF KILLZ”. I mean, its easy to say that if a div1 players engi or Pyro then the same applys but it just dosen’t. A div1 player playing engi still has good game sense. Im sure a div1 solly playing pyro could do alot more damage on a pub than a normal pub player playing solly while ubered.
The idea is really just game sense. Even if its not entirely concious, Im sure that everything anyone here does in a pub is done with the intention of winning the round. Getting lots of kills is simply a by-product of having lots of idiots W+M1’ing at you. Where as – on a typical pub server you can have vast numbers of people sit around as engineer waiting for that 1 scout kill or some sniper sit with their dot at the edge of a corner for minutes just to get that one headshot.
The bottom line is that typical pub players are idiots. They don’t know how to win the game or for that matter, really care about winning the game. Neither do they have skill (in general) to go and get kills as solly, scout, etc,,, so they revert to just camping, thus we have the wonderful game of Camp Fortress 2 that you will find on 95% of servers.
I mean we could go into why but thats really another arguement for another thread.

But still, I’ve not been here for 3 months but I do believe I have reasonable gamesense and skills. So why would you have us players that genereally have put an effort into coming into competitive play and have trained hard to become good enough to be considered a competitive player kicked just because they haven’t been here long enough, just doesn’t make sense to me.

I’m just quoting this because its freaking massive…
But yeah on a serious note, not allowing people to play because they are newly registered is a little daft in a game where we are trying to get more players into the competitive community.. its kinda sad that people are even suggesting to do this because imagine if you had a chance to play pubs with the better players when you started playing TF2? It would of improved my game alot :X and if people can behave and be nice on the publics people wont be as scared to join the competitive community but then again maybe im missing the point of this server and its just there for comp players and its not ment to encourage more pubbers to join comp…
