Why hello there!
I have absolutely not the slightest clue who to speak to so I just thought i’d make a thread.
Ive got a dedi box, which i really only use for web hosting these days which we can run a 2nd ETF2L server (and a fastdlserver if there isn’t one already?).
Whoever it is that makes the call, add me on steam if your interested. :)
Cheers, Adam
Nice :> Ive still not had a chance to play on the etf2l public due to it being full 99% of the time :X
Look at you offering free stuff to people, next you’ll be asking them do they want a sweet and if they want a ride in your car.
Nice avatar you Scottsman.

Let’s at least give it a few more days and see how the trend evolves. It’s started to shift somewhat already, so I’m not entirely sure a second server is needed. I’m more leaning towards restricting the clientèle further, since we have mm1s like:
“omg, what is this map, why u foolz voting this and not badwater”
“this map is too big for 6v6”
“who is playing 6v6 idiot?! we’re playing 12v12!” (regarding one of the compo-maps)
“fuck you bitch, stop spawncamping lameass!”
… along with people building teleporters to kingdom come just to grief people. I’d say removing the players who bring low quality to the server is more important than upping the amount of available playground. As with anything, quantity before quality just brings bad news in the end. There are a multitude of ways to do this. We shall ponder upon this, right now I can think of a few methods:
Only players in an active clan, Only players in a clan that has competed in one of the five seasons. No players with accounts created within the past 3 or 6 months…
… and so on and so forth.
No players with accounts created within the past 3 or 6 months…
That’s probably a fair restriction, if players under a certain account age can be “approved” seperately, as it probably would be too unfair on those who honestly are either fairly new to competitive or ETF2L itself. When I first started I did like 5 months in a clan but never signed up to ETF2L during that time.
Active players in clans etc. is a hard one though, there’s a lot of good players who haven’t been signed up to a clan for months, some maybe for even a year.
I still think a second server would be easy to maintain though, seeing how constantly full the first one normally is and how long it sometimes takes to get a slot. Could always be a smaller server, 16 slot etc. or something. I doubt there would be little harm done with trying it, if it’s free :p
Ok, Makes sense I guess.
I agree with the idea of restricting players. Probably better to make an OR style whitelist. I.E. something like if you are in an active clan formed at least a month ago or something like that. But the primary thing being that it is an OR whitelist, not an AND.
But ye, my box is here and its not going anywhere soon. :)
I do agree with Nymthae though, Ive been doing clans for about a year and this is the first clan ive been in where ive signed up to ETF2L simply because the other clans i have been in have been looking at wireplay and not ETF2L.

I disagree, a few people being idiots doesnt warrant losing alot of players. The idea behind this wasnt to make a div1 pub, to my knowledge, the idea was to make an enjoyable public server for the whole ETF2L community (which includes some clan less people :P) I think it just needs to be admined more (be that with giving admin rights to certain people that earn it or be that with the current admins putting more effort into playing on the servers, or maybe even just a topic on this forum where people can post if someone was doing something against the rules (of course with evidence) and then it could be delt with by an admin swiftly?
just give me rcon and i’ll watch the whole chat log through HLSW and kick ppl if they fuck around, while watching pr0n or whatever.
Sounds like a plan? GREAT.

Aye, Id go for that! :D
I assume the idea behind restricting new accounts is so people aren’t just signing up to get playing on that server.
It’s kind of like a reward for ETF2L players, rather than random people just signing up, no?
I’m not fussed, though. Anywhere you go you get annoying or abusive people, even among active players in clans, it’s not exclusive to “newbies” or less active people, so it’s not gaurenteed to lower the offenders.

Aye, pretty much. However I think 6 months is too much, WAYY too much. Im in the same position as you regarding signing up recently due to clans I was in. Thats why I suggest an OR style whitelist with multiple possible conditions to allow you to play.

I think the idea behind it is to get more people to sign up with ETF2L to get mroe into the competitive community, not to reward the current community…
