Pretty arrogant to whine about location, timing and such now when theres no chance it could be changed. This is pretty much exactly what happened with the TLR lan for CS:S which IIRC was even at the same location, and similar time of year. They got lots of positive feedback early on and assurances that many teams would sign up then it flopped, I think 6 teams ended up turning up to the event and the prizepool was cut due to sponsors dropping out.
Seems like teams/people are just too lazy/anti-social to put in the effort to attend these events unless they think they will win. I’ve been to holland three times now on a tight budget, under £500 including spending money and accomodation for an entire week and that was staying in Amsterdam, only for the social aspect of meeting up with friends and having a good time. Add in the prospect of a friendly community LAN event and I don’t see why this isn’t more appealing to people. God damn reclusive gamers, try live a bit occasionally:)
Saying that, I havn’t bothered either, although at least I have the excuse that I’m not in a team. Perhaps it is just down to the current economic situation for many people, although I’d say its a motivational issue more than anything. People automatically being pessimistic and thinking of the negatives, the only one of which worth considering is cost.
Glad the people behind TCL have continued to put in the effort and make sure this goes ahead anyway, its admirable and I hope you are not discouraged from doing something similar in the future, although I can see why, at least from a business perspective you would be.
End of the day look at TCL only 1 dutch team (who arnt entirely dutch) to a dutch lan, thats where the problem lays :p, wherever the lan is based you need people from that country to make up i’d say half of the teams to make it large enough.
“Pretty arrogant to whine about location, timing and such”
Who are you refering too? I don’t see anyone really whining, but more giving their reasons for not going. It’s not arrogant in any form.
Maybe this is something to think about for the next TCL, location. From what i’ve seen its an amazing location. My team and I will definately make efforts to go to the next LAN.
could always have it in russia :p least you are sure to have as much teams as u have now going to TCL :p
Anyhows idk? would have happily gone had it not been for ukesa and yoyotech refusing us the victory! blame yoyo
i bet 80% of you guys give a way difference awnser to all our questions now then they did with the polls. If you know this lan is coming and you want to attend, you shouldve saved some money.
Most of you were like “ye im gonna save some money for the lan” and then waste it on weed (well thats what i would do, fill in whatever beer/pussy :D)

Considering the amount of Dutch/Flemish teams that’s not so strange tbh.
At GoT we have quite a few players who also tend to enjoy just sitting outside, enjoying the sun, more casual. We’ve also got some players on a holiday and I’m attending a festival myself.
