Sorry confused, what's a demo

I’m really sorry but I want to take part in this, but I’m not too sure what a ‘demo’ is, and I can’t really find anywhere on here that explains it, only how to upload it. Please could someone help? Thanks :)
its a small file that is a recording of your game. You can record your demos by typing “record demonamehere” in console. It will then say recording xxx. Type “stop” in console to stop recording or disconnect from the server
They’re often in (depending on what you have your tf2 saved on)

You can watch demos by typing “playdemo demonamehere” in console
You can also download the P-Rec plugin,wich automatically records the demos from matches for you.

Exactly. This is necessary to solve possible match complaints and demos might be requested to check for possible cheaters so make sure to always record your demos or you might face penalties (mild penalty for the first offense, harsher penalties for repeated offenses).
