Anti-cheat client?

It recently occurred to me that a lot of leagues for CS and CSS have mandatory software such as ESL Wire or EasyAntiCheat that can allegedly detect hacks, yet competitive TF2 doesn’t seem to make use of such programs. Is there a reason for this? It seems (considering the amount of accusations that are thrown around here) that we could benefit from a system like this.

I actually have no idea if this is a legitimate possibility or whether there is a very good reason it is not used in ETF2L, I’m just asking it as a question.

I think its quite a lot to do with the difference that hacking in cs compared to tf2 can help. Things like 2d radar or wallhacks can make you an absolute god in cs, but in tf2 its still usefull but they dont break the game so maybe its just less of an issue..

lot of money

konr: Because it’s not that simple at all
konr: ESL has it because they have money (And the client is dogshit)
konr: lots of money
konr: ESEA, same story
konr: But the client is slightly better
konr: ETF2L is community run, and doesn’t have the money to make an anti-cheat client at all, especially not one that would be actually good enough to stop cheaters and not ruin the game experience for everyone else.

Using other pre-made anticheat clients also means that they’re probably bypassed by anyone that is any good at reverse engineering which is almost 100% the case when you’re someone that can code cheats that don’t get VAC detected. Not only that but forcing people to use it is very difficult and the alternatives are very sketchy and aren’t really worth it.

Because eu tf2 community is bunch in whining pricks who qq every time they have to even change their nick name for officials… Imagine what happens when they have to go as far as installing something and checking it before game…

Also server side anticheats are a no go because they are expensive and you need to provide these servers, so etf2l would need to provide at least 20+ servers without even the cost of ac itself.

Since there is really only prize money in prem, could we just run a couple servers with anti cheat for all prem games? Maybe fund it by taking out a little bit from the prize fund.

That would “solve” the server part so to say, but were would you take ze monies for the server-side AC?

minimum is 93 euros/month (vat included) + game server costs

It’s not like its a massive prize fund to begin with, after you take out the cost of anti cheat software you might as well play for nothing.

For 50 servers that isn’t so bad, considering you could probably run (nearly?) the whole league on it. that’s just an guess though, taking into account the fact that you can schedule a game whenever you like, not all at the same time like UGC.

You can get a ballpark total number of cheats by multiplying the number of caught cheats by the number of times TviQ’s demos were reviewed in the same period before he was caught. Probably fewer than 100.
