Sup dear etf2l community,

As the title already hints at I’m kinda new to competitive tf2 as in I’ve never played a competitive match in my life.
I do have a few tf2 hours played tho so I decided to give it a try , after all it could potentially be fun right?

The only problem is that nearly none of my friends play tf2 and the ones who do don’t seem to be interested in trying it competitively.
This leaves me with no team and 1v6 probably wouldn’t work out too well.

I’ve read the newcomer guide on this site and in case someone has no team it suggested playing mixes to find one/gain experience.
While I am familar with how a mix works the service for this (pixeltf2.pickup) seems to be down and I don’t know of an alternative.

I also figured that it would be a waste of time trying to apply for a team in the “Players Seeking Team” section since I don’t have any comp exp and thus won’t be getting any reply anytime soon.

Now my question is:

Is there any other way of getting to play a mix? Whether it’s IRC chat or another site like pixeltf2,doesn’t really matter as long as it helps me find a random team to play with.

Thanks in advance for the answers :D

Hey ducky Ive not tried this myself but a lot of people are using http://www.tf2pickup.net there is also http://www.tf2lobby.com for less competitive mixs but are still usually fun.

There is a newbie mix group which I am sure someone will link in the next five mins!

Since you have no previous experience whatsoever and only have few hours of tf2 I would recommend u to play lobbies before moving to tf2pickups ash there are more experienced players in pickups than they are in lobby. You can also add me if you need more help.

The pickup actually advertises itself as div 5+ skill which is another way of saying ‘You need to be familiar with the basics’.
I honestly wouldn’t recommend lobbies. They can be fun but you can get really unlucky and have someone on your team who isn’t patient and ragequits/rages/otherrageissuehere facing a new player.
The nlpg is in my opinion (and experience) the best place to start. That is also where teams get formed/players picked up if you’re aiming for that.

In any case, have fun!

Competitive tf2 is awesome and you are right in wanting to give it a go. The community is generally a nice bunch so don’t be afraid to ask for help or advice.

tf2lobby.com and tf2pickup.net

Make some friends, don’t be shy, go play. You’ll have a blast.

I recommend NLPG tbh, plenty of ppl there who will help you, where as lobby some people will just tell you your shit and thats it.

Find out what class you wish to proceed with, and ask for some guidance.

Also remember that 6v6 is only one game mode in comp TF2. You could try playing highlander too as you might enjoy it.
