*Warning, long post about rules clarification for low div teams, nothing too exciting here*
So we just played out final match in our Div : http://etf2l.org/matches/37649/
We have a question about the scores as in our lowly div the top 4 teams are very tight and the outcome of this match has a lot of impact.
We played Gravelpit
The general rules state :
All A/D and Payload maps are played in a best of 3 format. This means, that the first team that wins two rounds wins the map. A 2:1 result after 3 rounds counts as a Golden Cap win.
HL rules state :
Three points will be awarded for each map won. No points are given for a loss. In case of a draw a decider round will be played, where 2 points will be given for a win and 1 point for a loss (see general rules 4.1.3 and 4.5.3).
I understand that the HL rules supersede the General rules, but the 4-2 score doesn’t add up in that case.
We lost the first map, so that would be 0-3, we won the second one so it is then 3-3 and a draw so a decider needs to be played, as I read the rules above this means that when we won that match in general rules we won outright so final points should be 6-0 to us .. the HL rules state that we get 2 for a win and one for a loss so the results should be 1-2 2-1 2-1 ??.. meaning we score 5 and our opponents score 4 … which isn’t what the numbers say and also would seem somewhat churlish. Or should they be 0-3, 3-0, 2-1 which means again 5-4.!?
Anyone want to explain what I’m missing and why I’m an idiot.
Just imagine some games scoring 6-0 (6 points) and some games scoring 5-4 (9 points), so for the sake of all games having a 6 point pool it’s got to be 4-2 (again, 6 points)

General Rules are much clearer. The HL rules are actually quite unclear, because it’s catering for all game modes. In the case of gravelpit it’s played bo3, if you win 2-0/lose 0-2 then the points are 6-0/0-6. If you win 2-1/lose 1-2 then the points are 4-2/2-4.
In particular in your match, both teams won 1 round each. A 3rd round is played to decide who gets 4 points and who gets 2 points. Lemon Highlander won the 3rd round, so they get 4 points and Os Navegadores gets 2 points.
One round consists of each team attacking and defending once, allowing for a comparison of their times and identifying a winner of the round. If team A wins the first and the second round, they win the match 6-0. If team A and B win one round each, the teams are tied at 2-2 and a third round is played. The winner of the third round takes the match 4-2.
This is explained in the general rule 4.3.3:
– Results must be submitted as two maps (the same map)
– If you played two rounds and the match was won 2-0, enter the result as ’2-0′as result for each map
– If you played three rounds and the match was won 2-1, submit ‘2-1′ as the score for each map and tick the golden cap box for both maps
Basically, all attack/defence style maps are played as best of three in highlander with the same setup. Every match is worth 6 points total.
If one team wins the first two rounds, it gets all 6 points (6-0).
If each team wins one round, a third round has to be played and the 6 points are distributed between the 3 rounds, making each round worth 2 points and the result 4-2 or 2-4.
Sorry for the mess, the rules pages need a proper cleanup.
Thanks folks :) .. we were a bit confused. but makes sense now.
I think where the confusion is coming from here is that each round is treated as a ‘map played’, which doesn’t make sense.
Each week, bar one, has had one map for each match with each map following the ‘Best of Three’ rule. Yet a 2:1 win is counted as a draw + a golden cap win.
Surely it shouldn’t matter whether you play 2 or 3 rounds, the winner would be the team who’s won 2 rounds come the end of the match, leaving the only points options either 6-0 or 0-6? Why are points being awarded for winning a single round in a match?
