I never understood why people make rules that punish someone/something else rather than the actual offender.
Suppose you’re a disgruntled user and you want someone’s thread locked:
Make a new account, flame/bump the thread.
Clueless admins lock the thread.
Basically the actions of 1 user has caused the admins to punish anyone who has a legitimate interest in the thread. Instead just (temp)ban the offending user and/or remove his posts (in case of blatant spam).
IT’S NOT HARD
Casual: I do not see the problem, to be honest. If an inactive thread gets bumped with a simple “lol” or something similar, why not lock the thread? Also, if you have legitimate interest in commenting on a locked thread you may request that the thread is reopened, it is not that hard!
edit: Also, that is exactly what we are doing, I fail to see your point.

Moderators do punish offenders.

Pretty much what CanFo said. Only old, dead threads subject to senseless bumping (i.e. necroing) are locked. As for flamed threads, they’re only possibly locked in extreme cases involving several posters.

And, as CanFo said, if a thread gets locked, anyone can !admin and ask for it to be unlocked.
In fact you can !admin and ask for a lot of things. I propose we all !admin for SonnyBlack today to ask him various random questions regarding all sorts of rules (or other things). If you get a pleasant, unpleasant or amusing response, make sure to bump the chatlogs of strangeness thread with it.
If you don’t know anything to ask him, here are some tips: wildcards, spreadsheets, default dates, higher div elitism, rollouts, mid-game class swapping, calendars, scheduling, one night cups.. Be creative!

I suppose my response was more towards my own experience on other forums, but even here you have the original Frag clip thread (which admittedly was easily recreated but still), it didn’t need to be closed yet for reason that had nothing to do with the purpose of the thread it was.
