roster size for 6v6?

Hi. I can’t find the limit for this (it looks like 6+2 maybe?). I had the thought that it might be easier to keep a low division team together if they have a larger squad (maybe 10 or 12) and used rotation. They wouldn’t be as good as a regular starting 6 but that wouldn’t be the point.
If 8 is indeed the limit, would it be possible to list a larger squad at the start of a season and ask the other teams in the division to pre-approve the extra players as mercs?

i dunno about you but its easier to to have a team of 6 people and one backup. too much work with many players
