someone make an irc channel for it and get all the welsh tf2 players in there, i cant atm cause i got 20 feckin channels open but when i get one cleared out i’ll join
I’m dual nationaled Scottish and English. If I’m all honest I’d rather Scotland… why? It seems all the “hate” at the split is coming from English players and to be honest, you can still have a team UK with a team Wales/ROI/NI(if possible lol)/Scotland/England if you wanted to.
I think even if the other teams weren’t as good to start with or end up with, it expands the community as a whole, gets more people involved and will improve the skillbase of the community as a whole. It has a whole lot more benefits than one sole UK team.
Also I’d get to play with EoN because of my Scottish half <3
EDIT: We need a big admin statement to be honest =] Let’s get team.scotland off ;)
Im all for the uk splitting into country’s, only losing stealthy might effect the english team a bit, other than that its not a problem ;).
The people that want it split as well probably want this as they know theres no chance in hell of them getting in teamuk so why not team Northern Ireland! etc :p, which is fair enough.
And i can guarentee more of what happend in the post above will happen, everyone will suddenly find out their “half irish” or “quater scottish” just to get in a national team, isnt the rule that you have to live in the country to play for them or it was for other National cups? Its the only way to admin it otherwise the other uk countrys will be just full of phoney english people :p.
said it before, i’ll say it again. playing for your country is meant to be for people that are at the top of what they do. e.g football, rugby. they’re all the best at what they do in their country, so they play for their country. you dont see some lower division rugby/football players asking to make a 2nd team or split the team up, why would people want to spectate a game that consists of people that aren’t actually very good.
it’s the same with tf2. why split team uk up just to please people in lower divisions? it wouldn’t get tf2 more publicity or help the community out. why would people spectate the national games if they knew there was a bunch of div3/below players playing? i’m sure as fuck not a lot of people would spectate it. i know i wouldn’t want to. it would be boring. keeping the national teams as it is, is the best solution. people enjoy spectating teams that have the best players, that’s the only way tf2 is going to keep expanding. not having some div3/below players playing for team scotland, team wales etc.
im sure you get what i mean now.
+1 numlocked
Numlocked – like the British Lions in rugby? Rather than the actual national sides ;)
But yeah – I agree having the highest quality players compete in nations cups is the best idea.
If you end up going down the route of splitting up the UK and have to use lower div players you’d need to go through a qualifying process much like the world cup in order to determine which countries have teams of the required standard before allowing them to appear in the nations cup.
“in order to determine which countries have teams of the required standard before allowing them to appear in the nations cup.”
fuck yes. It’s already hard to get good swiss players, div2 is highest here. Not saying the lower ones are morons ofc, but it’s hard to find a decent team like that. And if it was just for getting spanked, i’d love to play it.
Why not scrap the whole idea of this being used for the Euro championship or whatever its called and just make a UK SEPERATE competition and Scotland makes a team, England makes a team, Wales makes a team and Ireland makes a team (split it into two if you want i wouldnt care tbh…) and just have a seperate competition?…
same reason as before, playing for your nation is for the best players. not bad players. not many people would want to watch it
There’s always been Irish teams in all major esports. Dunno why there can’t be one here either.
Because rolling teams is neither fun nor entertaining.
DOUBLE..
The huge flaw in your argument (numlocked) is that the UK is a unitary state, not a country :)
England, Scotland, Wales etc are the countries.
By your rationale you’re all for separate teams for England, Scotland and Wales.
I also completely disagree about the publicity, England v Scotland or Scotland v Wales football/rugby games get a huge amount of attention. Take a look at the BBC coverage of any football / rugby match and look at the packed stadiums!
From a cultural point of view there’s a huge rivalry in the UK which is played out in other sports very successfully, I don’t see why it can’t be played out in TF2 either. This rivalry is the driving reason for teams to train harder and compete more vigorously – they know they’re the ones responsible for gaining some bragging rights over their neighbours.
I can’t see why anyone would oppose it. If Team UK becomes less competitive as Team Scotland / Team Wales / Team England who really cares? If that’s the driving reason behind trying to preserve Team UK it’s pretty pathetic tbh
