If I watch one of the 10000 tv programs about football, a sport which I couldn’t barely care less about, I hear the same blablabla sound. All that goes through my head when I watch that is: “SLASH CARE SLASH CARE SLASH CARE… ARGH SHUT UP YOU FUCKING WHINERS”
But WE on the other hand, as a community, CARE about THIS specific game. That’s why this discussion takes place. Too bad however that some keep overlooking what has already been said or just ignoring it, not taking part in a constructive discussion, or just balls out start flaming and trolling.

It might seem silly to point out, but the game is designed around classes with various strengths and weakness.
Why does a soldier need the equalizer?
Why does a scout need bonk?
Why does a heavy need a sandvich?
Why does a particular class need to perform better in a situation they were not originally intended to?
This might be a sweeping generalisation, but I put it to you that these unlocks were all brought it to solve problems in the public arena, where by it’s very nature there will be a lack of teamwork. They are all generally a crutch for a lack of teamwork.
Challenge yourself.

I agree with Koeitje about the equalizer essentially reducing the skill ceiling to playing soldier because it makes the soldier easier to play and therefore reduces the skill required in order to maintain proper positioning and such because soldiers who do not position themselves properly are not punished as severely for doing so and other soldiers are less able to capitalise on these mistakes.
I dislike the equalizer simply because it’s a straight up buff to the soldier due to it being superior to the shovel. It does not warrant the need to be an unlock because it is an upgrade without any weaknesses compared to the shovel.
As Admirable pointed out, different classes are supposed to have different weaknesses, the two classes who argueably were most dependent on positioning (Heavy + Soldier) do not need unlocks that solve those weaknesses. The heavy’s skill ceiling has been reduced dramatically due to the improvements to his movement speed and wind up speed etc.
A good buff doesn’t need to address the weaknesses of a class unless they are so severe that it is gamebreaking. Instead they improve upon the strengths of a class whilst also raising the skill ceiling of that class.

Well, for me the it’s sad because removing sandvich turns heavy into a situational tool, instead of a mainclass. That doesn’t happen to Soldier if equalizer is removed, neither to scout if bonk is removed.
With it, heavy works like this:
– Gullywash, freight and cp_well remain the only mid points you can run it to all the time.
– Other mid points it’s more of a one-time off tactic, something to try to surprise the other team
– After mid points as soon as you die you can roll heavy for the rest of the round on all maps.
Without sandvich, heavy works like this:
– Gullywash, freight and well is still possible to run all the time
– Other mid points will remain one-off tactics
– After mid points, here is the change, going heavy will cause more damage than good because of stealing too much healing, will rely too much on medic, wont give teammates enough heals, being too slow, be a sitting duck when other team knows focus fire
– Pushing/defending last points is where the class could still be used, 2nd points will pretty much never see heavies, same for mids, with the exception of gullywash.
