Since the ETF2L admins are frequently blamed for not listening to their community although ETF2L is a community league, I thought we should start thinking about a fair voting system at ETF2L that is not easy to exploit.
A poll system could be used to decide the rules for unlocks and map pools (or at least help the admins to decide them).

Please note that there are no concrete plans on creating polls at the moment and I started this thread on my own behalf and it does not necessarily represent the opinion of the whole staff.

First, I will start to elaborate what has been suggested so far and why it could work and why not.
Remember: We need a poll system that
– is fair
– is not easy to exploit/abuse
– does not require much work by the admins :P

1) All ETF2L accounts get a vote
Does anyone remember the FAN-Vote? Many players received ETF2L bans for creating multiple accounts to manipulate the votes. This is obviously not working.

2) Only team leaders get a vote
Any team can have unlimited team leaders. In order to manipulate a vote one could simply set every player’s status to “Leader” or every player could create his own team for the duration of the poll to get a vote.

3) Only premiership / Division X players get a vote
Again you could add random players to your roster who support your vote. Also, who is considered premier in ETF2L is quite controversial since some teams from season 8 did not compete in season 9. It would not be easy to draw a line here.
Furthermore, I do not think a community league should exclude the low tier players from important decisions like this because they 1.) make up the majority of the playerbase, 2.) do not necessarily know less about the game we all love and 3.) are supplying the higher divisions with new players.

4) Every team that played last season (9) or last seasons (7, 8) will have one vote
This could actually work, in my opinion. The number of teams who can participate is limited so it is impossible to create dummy teams. ETF2L could send a verification code to every email address that is entered on the team’s pages so that every team gets only 1 vote.
Besides, ETF2L would reward stability with this system.
It would also be possible to weight the votes based on the division of the team (the ratio can be discussed, suggestions please).
Contra:
– Teams who disbanded after a season could be hijacked to steal the vote
– Can not really think about anything else, might edit this post later

5) Every player at ETF2L gets a vote, you can only vote if you do have a steam account connected to an ETF2L account.
Can be abused if one creates multiple ETF2L accounts with multiple steam accounts but the black sheep could be found by comparing IPs (probably the most effort for admins though).

6) Every ETF2L player who played an official match gets one vote
Don’t know if it is possible to fetch that, gotta ask DeNeus

7) Add the team member status “Poll Representative” (or similar)
Only one “Poll Representative” per team is possible, only teams with 6+ members can vote. Maybe even teams that were active in during the last 1/2/3 seasons.
Downside: High workload for admins implementing it (I honestly have no idea how much it would take. Maybe it is actually pretty easy)

8) Establish a “player council” of experienced players who are allowed to decide rules / show the admins what the players want
The largest problem would probably be how the players are voted into the council as most kinds of voting systems will be exploitable.
Suggestion: Every division elects 2 representatives who apply in advance

I am asking you now to falsify my arguments on the mentioned systems or bring in new ideas to discuss. I am open to any new ideas and will add new suggestions to this post if I consider them worthy.
I will remove any offtopic comments to keep this thread clear for everyone who is interested in adding something useful to the discussion.

edit: added 6) and 7)
edit2: added 8)

go with alternative 4

Wabbeh

4 seems best. As for the team hijacking: etf2l lists the players who play in each game, does it store/can it retrieve that info?

#2 and #4, but edit team admin rights so each team can only have one team leader. (add an alternative status with equal rights if needed). The team should also participate in the current season or did participate in the most recent one. Folded teams getting high jacked will hopefully be noticed by the community, or it will be so minor it wont matter.

The only problem with #4 is that opinions within a team can be conflicting, apart from that it is the best I think…

Option #9z: Let every team vote with whatever system works best and the manually pick out the bad votes.

Can’t voting be allowed only to accounts with more than.. say… 300 days or so vote? 1 year kinda means that they had a chance to play through atleast 2 seasons (s8 + AFS, for what it’s worth), and currently s9.
And if you think that they’re not “experienced” enough, you can just take the people with atleast 2 years of experience in ETF2L.

6) 5, plus actually having to have played at least 1 official game, meaning “verified” steamID status. this would filter out all shit accounts as well.
edit: to clarify:
– everyone gets a vote, who has played at least 1 official game (can be increased if you care enough).
this filters out “double accounts” because you’d actually have to go through the trouble of playing official games from multiple accounts and that is either waaaay too obvious/takes too much time.
edit2: you’d have to match all team[matches][matchplayers] with the entire account list, so that may be a rather impractical solution, but imo it’d work pretty well.

edit3: if it’s not possible, go with #4 – should not make too much of a difference on the end-result really.

#4 is best.

At least 1 season played in and completed.

Weighted in terms of number of tems per div, so prem has 10 teams, div 6 ermmm what is it 120? So if you feel Prem teams have a much better understanding and therefore should have more weight then it would have to be AT LEAST 15 ‘points’ per prem vote, 15 per div 1, 10 per div 2 etc to 1 for div 6.

In terms of map pool, teams pick a top 5 maybe, with the top choice getting more points than the 5th but also factoring in the div multiplyer too.

Unlocks…ermmm difficult one. Maybe weight the votes as with the map pool and have a required number of points to be accepted?

Good idea and should be seriously considered imho, should stop a lot of QQ’ing, you cant argue with democracy baby.

The solution is 1 vote per team competing in that season

Teams have to sign up regardless of the decision that will be made, once they sign up they select the options they prefer.

What ever the majority vote with is followed.

The actual hard bit is getting the questions you are going to ask the teams right.
If the questions are bad, the right answers will never be found

Quoted from Monkeh

You cant argue with democracy baby.

Do white people get more votes than black people????????
weighting votes is doing exactly that, some premier players have a lot less understanding on how unlocks work (as proved when a frontier justice raped on gravel pit, the fall out after it and in various interviews)

I’m against the idea of a voting system where the few dictate to the many (which a weighted system would)

I’d prefer the few informed dictating from their positions as admins, than allowing the few un-informed dictating because of the division they play in and out of potential fear of the unknown

Sometimes a portion of people getting more votes than another portion of people is the right thing though. Sometimes a portion people getting denied a vote is also the right thing – in terms of providing the best games it surely is.

I propose 1 vote per prem team that completed the past season to dictate the future of the next season.

Dropped teams don’t count to add at least some sort of incentive for prem teams to stay.

#4 mixed with voting where each map gets scored 1 – 20 (if there are 20 maps to choose from) top whatever scored maps get stuck in the map pool.

unlocks proves to be some what of a sticky point as there are sooo many variations however you could do something like… Option 1 could be vanilla + med unlocks, #2 could be the same rules as this season etc etc and each rule base gets scored like the maps.

No point voting for unlocks, I don’t know if you have noticed, but the current unlocks seems to be disliked. Vanilla + medic unlocks is (are :D?) the best solution. And if you (etf2l admins) just took a look at the map poll votes before season 9 you wouldn’t be dead.

Are we really “OMFG TRYHARD OMFG LETS B PRO FOR MONEY FAME AND BITCHEZ”, or do we PLAY a GAME for fun? That’s the answer to unlocks.

Regarding map pool, votes, div 6 opinion = 1 point, prem = 7 points. Imho, let teams pick what maps they’re gonna play from the pool. Sure they’re always gonna pick their fave maps, but they’re not the only ones who are good on it.
Alternatively, make map pools for each week and let them pick.
Alternatively alternatively, make map pools for each div based off voting.
Alternatively alternatively alternatively, be evil tyrants, not give a shit, and do it your way.

Just my 2 cents.
