ETF2L -> VTF2L (V=VALVE!)

[…]no

and how old is that line? its not like racio has been main admin for long, but since he has, hes done “quite” a job

yes it’s old, but it’s still on the site – on the welcome page. If they don’t want to stand by it that’s fine but it shouldn’t be there publically. The league rules have been there since the start of ETF2L they’re old do they not count anymore?

These threads wil never work. The top players all think that etf2l is pandaring to the pubbers, and the lower players all think that etf2l only cares about the top players. Face it, if you’re one of group A go to ESL, if you’re one of group B stay here.

Why should the top players go? As a general rule they’ve been around the longest put the most into ETF2L done the most to help TF2 grow as a comp game pushed for LANS etc…

we just need to hold votes for highly debated topics and act on them, I can think of several just from the top of my head

1.Different rulesets for div 2+
2.Map pools
3.Dealing with cheaters

Voting would solve all the problems, it would stop crappy forum debates becuase someone can just turn around and say “well look at the votes”. The only problem then is you have the top players saying “well I don’t want div 6 shitters deciding how I play TF2” which I guess is fair enough and there is no solution for it other than manning up but atleast it’s fair.

Well, it seems to me that all the pro-vanilla players have alreay gone, and its just a few staying back and going ‘YEAH WELL ETF2L SUCKED ANYWAY CY@ IN ESL TROLOLOL’

Voting system A:

A player has as many “votes” as he has days in etf2l. For example I would have 1140 something votes as I registered on the site so and so many days ago.

Voting system B:

Prem players get 7 “votes”, div1 gets 6, div 2 gets 5 and so on.

167,56% seriousssss.

Because lower divs should play with cheaters :D

Main combat classes (scout, soldier, demoman, heavy): Bonk, Equalizer, Sandvich and Pain train allowed.

Fine.

Support classes: All allowed, except Wrangler, Vita-Saw and Amputator which are banned.

So out of the support classes, the only weapon thats banned is the wrangler…

http://tf2wiki.net/wiki/Weapons

Looking down that list, most of the weapons I am indifferent about playing with or against.

I’d say huntsman & gunslinger are the most groan -___- weapons, but I’d also say both of those can easily be beat with a 100% vanilla setup without stupidly huge changes to gameplay…

^Randomly thought I’d share my opinion… by all means disagree, but don’t mad.

Well no, that solves nothing and contributes nothing to the debate of helping ETF2L.

I can almost promise you they have left to kick ETF2L into shape. Most of the top players dislike ESL for numerous reasons and Ero tf2’s home is ETF2L.

Quoted from Tikcus

[…] You mean the disagree with you? Can we move away from people not in top x division don’t understand game mechanics, you don’t even have to play the game to understand its mechanics

It’s not that people in lower divisions can’t understand the mechanics as well, but there’s really no way to tell, and to be fair, for the most part they don’t. People can boast all they want, but at the end of the day, how well you fared in the league is the best testiment we have of someones understanding of the game.

As I see it, the issue with the unlocks is that that they add to many additional variables. Better players look ahead and have a countermeasure for every possible action of the opponent, very much like a chess player. Making the game too versatile, rids them of the possibility to make strategical decisions, since they won’t know what they’re facing. It’s like putting a rock-paper-scissors meta game into the fray. This quote captures my stance pretty well:

“Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.”

Antoine de Saint-Exupery

What I particularily dislike about the current approach, is the mentality of letting things in, just because they don’t appear capable of causing any harm, and for the most part they’re not even being used. They add nothing of value and only impair strategical decisioning for the ones capable. Adding an unlock should be a well motivated concious decision. Hence, I propose a conservative cinnamon set of unlocks in addition to the vanilla ones:

Pickaxe – No surprise element, you can expect every soldier to have one. Rewards opertunists and clever risktaking. Some may argue that it will enable you to slip out of situations that you shouldn’t really have escaped. Looking at it from another angle, it narrows down what is considered good positioning. When your opponents have the pickaxe, their team can retreat and recover more easily, putting more preassure on you to be in a sweetspot position, far away to not get picked off, close enough to swiftly strike back when the oppertunity arises.

CAD – Will allow you to exercise good timing, rather than randomly be/not be in a world of shit when your cloak runs out. There’s no way to make a right choice when you’re not given any.

Bonk – Much of the argumentation for the equalizer is valid for this as well. Will also make heavy+sentry turtling less of an option.
