Yeah I understand mate, I just wanted to clarify it because no doubt people will post in this thread without actually reading anything.
Summer Olympics sounds epic tbh. Would have went for that totally.
Shame really, have a bit of fun.
nations cup alongside the summer olympics (group stages during olympics then the playoff stages (or semi-final + final) after the olympics had finished so everybody had something to watch) would’ve been a combo of epic proportions.
why you did AFS instead of this, I will never know.
Tbh the summer league is shit because you didn’t commit in either direction. If you’d had a proper season it wouldn’t have been such a joke and nowhere near this many teams would have dropped, and if you’d had no league at all we could of done the other fun stuff that was mentioned.
Lets give credit where credit is due d2m, ulv made the olympics, not “WE THE AMAZING ADMINS”. Also I think you should be happy that you did the silly version of a season instead of a real one, which would’ve fucked up everything. Noone would’ve taken a nations cup seriously either so Im glad you didnt put that up. A silly season with no consequences is actually pretty alright considering.

tbh the only thing that would have motivated people to actually play in etf2l was season 8 and no shitfront
i liked the AFS till now, but maybe only because i’m a div 4 shitnerd and noone drops down there. I think the problem is, that since it’s a season without going up or down to other divs, noone cares if they drop. I know a team that registered and their leader told me “fuck off, probably we aren’t enough – but we get a spot and try to play a few matches” Only div 2 looks really fail to me, other seasons, like season 7 had also divs with 4-5 teams dropping. There, also 5 div 2 teams dropped. Not rly that much better in my opinion. If there was promotion, some teams wouldn’t start dropping after losing their first match.
Its epic to see ppl moaning about the AFS, when most ppl wanted the season to start earlier after season 7.
Thats why they did a AFS, its a middle-thing, neither is it a “real-season” neither is it a “wannabe-season” its just a season to keep ppl interested. You dont have to attend on the AFS, cause from what I understand it wouldnt affect season 8(correct me if I am wrong) but as for on-topic: Yeah i’ve also noticed that TDh is also banned, and the buff banner. OH SNAP! I do see why u banned the TDH, but dude, the buff banner? Its not like u get it instantly, besides I dont even know if most ppl ever have used this(except vali, cause he is a cunt <3 )
I think the admins do a goodjob anyway(yeah yeah, call me an asslicker) but if we get more basic changes like "ban the fucking fan" then I say kudos to the admins.
And gummi is a dribbler <3

An Olympics with silly events such as:
* 1v1 battles solly/sniper
* Prophunt
* Dodgeball
* Balloon Race
* That silly Wario Ware style funmap
And a whole bunch of others. Basically everything that would get you having fun with your team and just embracing the summer as an enjoyable time to play games, but also to go out away from gaming too.
This sounds 10x more fun than any season.
(only because i’m pro at tf2_ware)

I was enjoying AFS, i would still be enjoying it if every team in my group wasn’t retarded when it came to arranging matches.

Pretty much this. If the league actually meant something, then people would not have treated it like a joke.
A mix of fun and serious stuff would have been the best, even if you had to cut down on the no. of serious teams. The main reason for clans folding was burnout and coldfront, so fun cups to break up the monotony and only playing good maps would be a good solution.
I remember all these proposals about fun stuff AND serious stuff before the summer started, yet it seems none of the fun stuff actually happened (except the bball thing, which isn’t even that fun anyway). What happened to it?
What’s killing the AFS (at least for me personally) is that because of summer (and sports on TV) planning matches is terrible. Although the match page system of the ETF2L is reasonable, communicating with unresponsive opponents is crap. Playing a league like this in the middle of summer requires some strict scheduling. I don’t believe this is different from a normal season that would take place in the summer. ETF2L needs a stricter scheduling system. I call for major warnings for unresponsive opponents.

I’ve got IRC logs of us putting things together and ideas on the table in February. So you can stick your “credit where credit is due” wherever you like chief :)
I’ve also got emails dating back to February 11th which show the discussion in obtaining various mods and updated maps such as with voogru and his pyro dodgeball mod.
In addition, making a competition of 1v1 fights (which ulv did a few months ago) is not a team olympics event that inspires a full team to have fun together. The whole point of our idea back in February was to inspire teams to actually have fun and to remember that they are playing a game. The sense of fun disappears from people far too quickly when all they care about is competitive matches.

Not that it really matters but there was a outline of such a fun cup on the admin forums long before og ran one. Guess the name wasn’t that original :p
Also, yeah it’s kinda obvious a ton of teams will fold during a summer season. The actual problem was teams signing up thinking they could easily play in the summer without problems instead of checking if they could play.
