and i don’t think our system can cope with randomly adding in another 8 teams all of a sudden into the knockouts ;). I’ll speak with MPUK and see if there is anyway to bodge around this but their system is very temperamental.
I don’t know if you HAVE TO use multiplay’s system, but Challonge creates the bracket perfectly. Take a look: http://challonge.com/i46tf2test

We do have to as it is all tied in with the multiplay TF2 servers and bracketing and scoring system etc. (its complicated).
I’m speaking with the developers currently to define what we can and can’t do and hopefully get it sorted. It all depends on how many teams sign up but hopefully we can squeeze the LBF UBF and Semi final into BO3 (as long as you dont mind staying up late on saturday boys and girls) as well having the “Elite group” at the start. Bear with me will let you know more.

Cheers Califax, best presentation of an idea so far, but still its adding lots of hours we dont have to the tournament :(, and i don’t think our system can cope with randomly adding in another 8 teams all of a sudden into the knockouts ;). It does not add lots and lots of hours to the tournament. The pool play is still 7 (n-1 for even n for odd) rounds if you have 8 teams and the Championship bracket effectively only adds in 1 round (1 for each upper and lower bracket, but those can be played simultaneously). Take a look at the challong put up earlier, it is an exact replica of the format I proposed (as is, I think, the pdf califax put up, but that thing is giving me headaches to decode :P). Surely we can find time for 1 more effective round. You have a 3 hour block of time on sunday that is apparently not being used. I assume it is for the Grand Finals of other games, there is no reason that the last 4 TF2 teams cannot play their penultimate two matches somewhere in that time slot.
Also, what format are the GFs? I think past ro8/ro4 or so it should be bo3, but we may not have time for that :/

100% of the problems we have ever had at an ESEA LAN is because of a system set up like that.
Just sayin.

You are incorrect here Shdwpuppet, they can not be played simunltaneously, because the first round of the losers bracket consist of the losers of Winners round 1 and winners round 2, so those have to be played first.
So this system effectively adds 2 rounds

Yep it adds 2 hours to the system, however as we now have 9 groups running together instead of 8 technically we’ll gain an hour from that so its just an hour longer all together.
However clanforge is still being a cunt and the coders dont seem to want/be able to help with the proposed setup. Clanforge being integeral to running this tournament is causing the issue currently.
As i say hopefully we can have our cake and eat it, have Elite group and also have LBF UBF and Semi all BO3. But may have to sacrafice LBF BO1.
Still trying to get a work around sorted for the tournament currently so bear with me.

You are right, my counting abilities have failed me again.
DAMN YOU AMERICAN EDUMACATION SYSTEM
I think only having the last 3 games bo3 is already too few, please don’t sacrifice anymore for the sake of completely inconsequential games.
By the way, what about that 4 hour gap between the sunday morning knockouts and the final? Can’t some of that just be used?

Yep, thats contingency time, we could eat into a bit of it, but really thats reserved for if we have problems we always have a little more time.
Basically from all the calculations of every possible system, due to the restrictions of time and clanforge we have two choices.
Go with the invite group at the start and sacrafice BO3 games later on.
Go as planned and have more BO3 games later on.
Im swaying more to the latter to be honest, the games will actually mean somthing then, the pressures on, its what every has been waiting for ;), sure maybe a couple of top teams may not play each other due to upper and lower brackets, but like i say maybe before the final in those hours gaps we can have some show matches with the non finalists?
Tapley, wouldn’t you be able to put the big 6-8 teams on different groups in order to not have them go agains’t eachother until later on ?

That is the old system, which is the whole point of the discussion the last few pages on this topic, because some people would like to see it changed somehow… In that system some of the top teams won’t be able to play each other at all, except in a pcw-setting, which is not the same. And gives less teams a chance to play in the tournament bracket…
Want to see the top teams all play eachother? Use the momentum built up from a successful LAN in terms of attendence and viewership and get TF2 back at The Assembly or push for something crazy like Dreamhack.
Got to believe.
Thanks for considering this Tapley.
You are cool wit me bro =D
