Changing the font by your own isn’t hard to work out so I don’t see the problem.
Actually it would in most cases cause unproper sizing and shading, making you have to sort out every little detail by yourself.
I’m just saying. The font may have fps-practical reasons, but it’s hard to read, not easy on the eyes, weirdly sized and un-pretty in so many ways :( Silly boys, liking silly things.

I’m not offended :). I know it’s your personal taste, just the way it’s other way round. We like it with link, i’m sure there’s atleast few other who does as well :)
Font seems hard to read quickly from a first look, won’t be able to tell until a proper go. Looks nice in some areas though.
The health indicator has been subject to some discussion between me and M0re and we have come to a decision to abandon the bucket design in favor of quake style health, with a few modifications. I held on to it for quite some time but eventually convinced myself otherwise. Reasons for the change:
* Bucket health has 3 components conveying the exact same information. The bar tells you you’re gonna die, the digits tell you you’re gonna die and the blinking motherfucking death warning tells you you’re sure as hell are gonna die. An while you’re dying you’d rather not be distracted by a lot of clutter. The targetisd in particular become a lot cleaner this way.
* Knowing if you’re low/fine/buffed is fully sufficient when you don’t really have time to look. Instead of having an accurate continous representation of the health value it’s more useful to use three discrete colour codings to make sure that you notice the transitions when preoccupied.

As for the font…
I think we’ve proved our point about it with low resolutions, but even at higher resolutions it has a lot of properties that I’d like to maintain.
– It’s space efficient. All characters have about the same dimensions, so a bac
kground doesn’t have to be much bigger than the text. This enables better visability. This also helps with alignment.
– The sharp edges allows for very lean, evenly distributed shadows.
– It’s very simplistic, few twists or turns.
Since a less edgy font seems to be in great demand it wouldn’t surprise me if we decided to make a font swapped high-res version some time in the future, but it’s not a priority at the moment. Ideally I’d like a smooth version of the current font. All characters in the low res font can be converted using the pattern used in this concept. http://img708.imageshack.us/img708/7530/highresfont.png Sadly, fonts aren’t made over night (at least not for me) so, in the meantime, we’ll remain as silly as allways.
