What is this and how can I check it?
Look at the HDD light on your PC, if its solid or flashing a lot while in-game (other than when you’re loading or changing map) then its probably that, and even if its not we’ve got some idea what the problem is.
Also Focuz, I use -noborder and it makes a slight difference, although either way i get 60fps+ with PldX config. :)

Tell me Skyride, how can I make sure hard-drive caching or whatever is not active on Win7.
I’ve tweaked a lot of my windows services and I don’t have any extra junk running in the background.
I’ve left indexing on because I think it’s a useful feature and I understand that Win7 is “supposed” to not do it during games.

I couldn’t honestly tell you how to have it such that it DEFINATELY is off when games are running. To be fair though, if you’re not getting random FPS drops at times, then I doubt its on. As unreliable as that seems, think about it, even if it IS on but you’re not getting FPS drops, is it a problem for it to be on?
Personally I don’t know a huge amount about it as given my experience with it in Vista, it was just constantly slowing down my PC all the bloody time so I just turned it off and forgot about it.
