yo yo
I know that TF2 sucks for this and some people get fps drops after each update but there has to be something I can do apart from upgrading D:
Tried it with the latest Quantum cfg.
With the ultra-high fps setting I get average of 50/60 fps but it just feels choppy as shit, can’t stand it. Thats with this ultra-high fps config as well man. :(
FPS dips to 40 in battles
Choke goes up to 20+ in action.
8800 GTS 512mb
E8400 @ stock 3ghz
4gb ram
win 7
All un-needed processes, background programs, etc turned off.
Tried dx 8, didn’t make a significant difference.
Tried the low fps fix on the steam forums, didn’t make a difference. linky
Used to get 100 fps constant, smooth as fuck, stopped playing for ages, came back and this has happened D:
Is there anything at all I can try apart from upgrading stuff or overclocking my cpu?

The last time I played TF2 I got 9fps at mid.
This isn’t useful, but it might make you feel better.

I do feel better.
Kinda odd. My friend has about the same build than you and he gets 120fps all the time.
Have you tried cleaning your hdd from spyware n stuff?
yea, Check and remove any background applications you have in the task manager. Remove as much as you can. Your rig should be able to play tf2 with half decent settings to get 60fps.
I had TF2 @1440×900 on max settings/4xAA/trilinear and maintained 60FPS, you should be getting way more than that. Tried the usual PC cleaning (defragmented, virusclean, possibly reinstall TF2/OS etc)?
Check Win7 isn’t HDD Cacheing, It did that to me quite a lot of initial install which just destroyed my FPS.
Thats definately a software problem, that system is easy capable of 60fps+ with a config.
with that spec, you should be fine without any fps configs (you may want to test your GPU or get it tested, is the low FPS TF2 specific?)
btw choke is not caused by your rig, but by your internet
what are your settings for the following
rate
cl_updaterate
cl_cmdrate
cl_interp
cl_interp_ratio
if you have them set to aggressively, and your net is not great you will suffer loss/choke
to quote valve
Most “high-performance” setting cause exactly the opposite effect, if the server or network can’t handle the load.

You can’t really say that, it depends vastly on the resolution he’s running at.

Assuming you’re running @1440*900 or less you should be fine without any FPS cfg and reasonable settings) , unless something is actually wrong with your build
If you are running at > 1440*900 reduce the resolution and you still shouldn’t need an FPS cfg
After this 119 update my fps has gone down to 50 and doesn’t go up. 50 is the maximum i get , but it sometimes goes even as low as 10.
Yesterday I still had stable 105 fps (ive got fps_max 105) , now it’s just horrible.

At 1440*900 on W7 (in case you didn’t know, W7 sucks up frames) I would expect that card/proc combo to indeed dip to 40 at times on higher settings.
As for Quantum’s config only putting you up to 50/60, that sounds a bit… strange. It shouldn’t be going that low.
What resolution is OP running at?

Windows 7 does not “suck up” frames. Don’t spread misinformation, please.
