As I have written before I am a writer on the swedish site Onlinegamer.se.
Since beta, I(and OG) have tried to get more pubbers to join competetive play, but we have been less succesful.
Things me and OG have tried:
Recruited clans from pubs, rather slow and when youre finished you dont want to leave ;)
Spammed forums that cover other games, result: nothing happends and forum admins dislikes you.
1on1, 2on2 cups, havent been that popular for pubbers.
Highlander region league, some pubbers were interested but dropped after 1 or 2 matches.
And now Im trying to help communities to gather teams for the Highlander community cup.
We have also decided to make a 6vs6 mixed teams cup, with pubbers mixed with clanned people, hoppefully we can get some pubbers to join.
So my question is: Have someoneone succesfully made something in other countries to recruit pubbers? because it seems that the swedish community is slowly shrinking ;(
Or is the only solution to have succeful lans with large prize pots?

To get the pubbers to go competive I think the public-servers, both servers and homepage make more adverts about it, think you’l need competive admins and other stuff to get this to work in the long run.
I got a group of 6 to go competitive by taking 7, mentoring them with help from others and enter them as a team in S7, but that’s not an option if you want large-scale influx. I think things like the ETF2L Community Highlander challenge are your best options. Get in touch with the biggest pub communities, find a set of servers they can play on and run it.
you have to really give them a good taste e.g link around some really good fragmovies which show skill and teamwork. like you got to link the movies which make you wanna get a game and play. like ages ago me and my mates always used to watch one of JH’s first movies and he really gave us an insentive to play/ get very good
erm. DSTM and our new team PSTM are almost exclusively players form the simmian cage public servers.
Hello traumsig,
It’s good to see other people are trying to do the same as we (tf2 romania), we’ve built TF2 Romania to get more comp players, we have little succes by introducing the players to know each other and to play in a team. However since there are many sweeds something unsuccesful for you may be succesful for us.
tl;dr: try to get people know each other, and they may play in a team.

Why do we want pubbers?
So u played comp since the first day u loaded up tf2?
I’m doing some introductive tutorials for 6v6, they are all rather basic and I’m hoping to will encourage some pubbers into 6v6 or even trying some more Highlanders.
It’s also finding the right players to play 6v6, you have those that have time to learn and those that don’t, those that don’t you can just introduce them to tf2lobby and see if they enjoy it etc. If not let them stick to pubs.
My team is formed of players that I found roaming in the depths of public (well 4 of them anyway) one of them didnt even know there was a game mode outside of Arena.
Valve are supporting the competitive community so would help encourage as many people as they can do get people playing for it.
I think getting people used to 6v6 by introducing normal respawns, fixed damage spread, no crits etc. is something that needs to be worked on to get people out of 24/7 cp_orange_x fast respawn etc etc etc.
