Its just about give and take, polietly explain your situation and would it be possible to use a merc, here is the players etf2l profile..? If they still say no then yeah thats bad sportsmanship as they care more about the win than actually playing.
But i guess its a competition/league so their entilted to do that, dont flame them, just accept the fact that they are probably kiddies who <3 the endofseasongoldcupinprifle.jpg.
(Don't worry sektor us at rej are going to default the shit out of impact!)

I’d say pretty much everyone cares more about winning than having a fair game if they have the choice. Just look at how people teamstack in tf2lobby. Most games end up being 5-0’s that last 10-15 mins.
Personally I prefer a fair game resulting in a loss than an unfair win anyday.

I always want to win, but what’s the point in winning if the game isn’t fair ?
The most enjoyable victories, in my opinion, is when you fight a fair and even fight and just barely manage to win.
To fight on unfair terms and enjoy it is like stealing candy from children and get a feeling of satisfaction from it.

The best matches I’ve ever played are coincidentally all losses. Tight matches that were only decided at the very last minute/second. :D
Mmm, i don’t mind when people are dicking around using binds and stuff as thats easily ignorable, but when people start making personal attacks on other players (particularly players on my team/me) then its pretty lame.
Nothing to get worked up over though. I can’t even imagine you getting angry lolage ;D

The TF2 community is more and more like the CSS community everyday.
If Team A feels they can beat team B 6v6 , they will probably allow a merc.
If Team A feels they will probably lose to Team B if it was 6v6 (and promotion etc is at stake) , they will not allow the merc and make them play with 5, or ask for a default win.
Unfortunatly this is the way some of the TF2 community has decided to act.

For god sake, quit the whining.
The TF2 community is still a million times nicer than the cod, cs/s, and almost any other community. Just because people dont want to get rolled by someone under their skill level using a merc from like 2 divs above (which seems to be what most people do) doesnt make them bad sports. If its an official and getting promoted is at stake I would personally say to my team not to let them use a ringer purely because its then not their team your actually playing against so how is that fair.
Good sportsmanship is to have 6 players who actually can play.
But there will always be situations that are beyond your control. You just have to use common sense about it

Actually if you notice, badlands was a very tight game 4-3 with 6v5. Clearly they were just trying to make the game fair because pH were far far better than them.
refusing a merc may or may not be bad sportsmanship (my personal opinion is “it depends”, especially on things like how good a relationship you’ve had with the clan in the past, how often they’ve screwed you around etc.) but imo the only valid non-bad-sportsmanship response is “fair enough, it’s your call”
otherwise you’re descending to the same level yourself.

That doesn’t make it ‘fair’, and it would be ridiculous to say so, this league is not a quest to make everyone equal in terms of skill. What it does is unfairly manipulates the outcome, but make it fair? No.
If Diggy played some div6 team 2v6 and got beaten 4-3 on badlands in a serious match because the other team would not allow mercs for the 4 members of dignitas that had all had their computers go up in flames 5 minutes before, you wouldn’t think of it as ‘fair’ to Diggy.

As Willow pointed out earlier in the thread, at nervousENERGY Blu our stance is to allow pretty much all mercs as long as they are registered to ETF2L and are in our current division or have a history of being in our current division.
That is, unless a team decides to fuck us around about which mercs they want to use. Changing their minds constantly every other hour until the match starts then complaining when we say no, trying to force us to allow them to use a merc and eventually after making us wait for 20 minutes being able to get their six on the server.
Thus making some of us not able to play the second map, we schedule our games at the times they are for a good reason, some of us have real life stuff we have to do every now and again, not often but occasionally.
If people think less of us because of such a situation, sic vita est.
