Unsportsmanship

I know, as a whole the tf2 community is a pretty good one. I just really don’t see the point in the minority of people/teams to be so unsportmanship like when playing games.
For example, when playing a semi-serious game today the opposition were winning but they felt the need to say stupid things such as “fail” or other useless comments/binds after each round. Just shows their maturity i guess.

You played an NA team?
have you ever played vs paranoids?
jesus I hope you never do
Or teams that don’t allow you to use any merc when your 6th’s computer dies 30 minutes before a game. They force you to play with 5 which costs you promotion. http://etf2l.org/matches/17313/
Yeah right. Playing vs vertex3. After you win one or two points, two of the opponent is already ragequitting, so its 4vs6 making it even easier to win. Or against that bulgarian sdx. They let you wait for 20 min and saying stupid bulgarian things to you because they cant find the last player. When they start playing, they left halfway their first map, because they had an official.
People are gonna be rude; it happens. Ain’t too pleasant, but it happens. Haters gonna hate.

The question is, why were you playing vertex3 in the first place? It’s a bottom division 6 team.
We get flak from opponents a lot, even though we are generally very reasonable people. Part of the rage comes from misunderstanding skill ratings. When I look for a game I advertise like 6v6/div5/server is on. Most people are too lazy to find an opponent themselves (or don’t want to play a div5 team, dunno), so I start looking for teams that advertise themselves as low+. Which in my book means something like “I am in div5”. I get the feeling that I am the only one that thinks that way, as I see div4 teams advertising as low+ and div6 teams advertising as mid-. Anyway, when I talk to a team that ISN”T advertising themselves as low- and tell them that we’re in div5 and that I would like to play a PCW, I really don’t see a reason for the opponent to ragequit if they loose. It’s not as if we are up for promotion to div4 or something. It’s not me that’s faking skill…
EDIT: perhaps if you notice the massive skilldifference it would be sportsmanlike for the better team to call it a day.

Life is too short for dealing with 1337 4$$ PWNZ0rZZZ (old phx people will remember my reference) type clans, just kick them from your server mid game and play with the civil 95% of the community.
One thing I always liked about tf2 is that the people playing seemed relatively “normal” in comparison to the css and cod communities who come across like the worst stereotypes of sperging fuck wit online gamers.

Didn’t you contact the ETF2L admins?
Disallowing mercs is often done with the thought of: “he’s from a higher Div, so they will win”. A prime example of this not being true is OG vs cts. OG, the common favorite to win Div5a especially when Numlocked joined their roster to help them, was expected to beat them. Hell, cts themselves didn’t think they’d win. Final result?

Ofcourse there’s also being a total bitch. Disallowing mercs is your right. Poor sportsmanship on your behalf but it’s your call. It’s another thing entirely if you start blaming the enemy team for having to use a merc when it’s not their fault. Example: Impact vs Sektor.
Sektor had been playing with merc Medics most of the time and spent ages trying to find a new one. Unfortunately for them, there were none available and when they finally found one (MatOo) he left after 2 weeks (Don’t know the reason, but apparently it was sudden and unexpected – Sektor referred to it as “our medic backstabbing us). Then the match against Impact where Impact didn’t allow mercs (as they’ve never done it). Ok, fine. Your right. Poor sportsmanship, but it’s a fair decision. What was NOT fair however, is Don_Corl3one then posting
“if u are not able to keep together a group of, at least, six people is not our problem.”
A completely unnecessary comment whose sole purpose seems to be to rub it in a little more.
Even when disallowing mercs though, that can be done in a civil manner and solved in a polite way. A good example of this being [SAS] vs Ecliptic last season. Ecliptic disallowed [SAS] the use of a merc so they had to get an inactive player to play that one match, then all of a sudden one of Ecliptic’s players dropped and [SAS] responded in a similar fashion: Ecliptic wasn’t allowed a merc either. Eventually this resulted in a 5v6 which, after some back and forth, was put on a hold with a simple “gl in your future matches” from both teams in the match comments and a friendly “yeah, both shouldvé handled it better” from both sides in the “how did your season go?” thread.
To several team I present the following question: Would it really kill your chances at winning the match (since that is what people seem to care about) if they used a merc? Would it really hurt you that much to let them play with a merc if for whatever reason they can’t get 6?
Ofcourse there’s also the other way around. If I was in Vertex3 and I join the server to see amongst others Waster there (his example), I wouldn’t be inclined to stay.
tl;dr – read it you lazy cunts. :D
