I know that I personally could not cover enough useful stuff about the medic class in 3 minutes, to be honest I don’t think anyone could.

3 minutes is too short.

if that wasn’t sarcasm (idk if it was), i’m actually full at the moment mentoring three people, but a space should free up soon.

Then that’s not helpful, because the amount that could be said in 3 minutes will only cause wrong assumptions about the rest. People coming from pubs need fuller advice than that that can be given in 3 minutes alone, not least because the playstyle is so different.

Why not? It only takes like a sentence to say “point and click.”

Seems like a perfectly valid suggestion to me. As long as at the start of the video its made clear that they are not covering everything you need to know then it should be great. I know a lot of people who just want to play casually but still improve who’d appreciate being able to get help in specific areas quickly without having to ask a stranger to help them out.

As literally the target market for your idea, I think it’d be great. Obviously playing with a team is a good way to learn but it’s also going to be very frustrating for the team who say “lets fake an uber” and for me to go “whu?” (Just to take a random example).

Sure you’re never going to cover every tiny bit of use for each thing but at least new players can learn the basics of what each thing is and types of plays used that may be totally new to them. Watching Demos is great but if you see someone do something but have no idea why then it can be a bit frustrating also.

I’d love to help make the videos but obviously I can’t being totally new to comp. However if you need a complete noob to check the videos over and see how helpful they are then let me know.

Ok, this is going down, I’m working on a list of techniques to cover as we speak.

What I need:
Someone that can make a GOOD intro/outro for the videos (I can then just use basic transitions for the rest)
I think I have people for some demonstration.
And some footage, preferably I’d like people in div2+ to offer advice to include and demo’s with some good footage like; backcaps, forcing ubers, evading kritz, counter attacking, sticky traps etc.

If you are willing to help add me on steam, thaaank you.

I think it is a good idea, you can learn a lot from watching vids, especially if they are explained by a voice over. People saying “just play 6v6”, well that might work, but unless people can see how to do things right, then they don’t have anything to work towards (and they will just get raged at in pickups etc…).

the tutorials from the start of Tomb Raider is not the way to do it.

There were tuts in tomb raider? Do not remember.

Anyway I like the idea, but I wouldn’t really use it to give tips, more an overview of how the class is played and what they do, so people can see if they’re interested in playing it.
Small clips highlighting situations, with a voiceover, could be good too.

Maybe you can get the TF2Tactics guy on board: http://www.youtube.com/user/christianmalazarte

It’s a lot of pub-tactic vids, but i.e. his FOV, Medic Regen, Cap Speed vids are really good imho.

I think it’s a really good idea. I could imagine “beginners” which are interested in the competitive scene, would rather watch some videos on youtube than contacting some high skilled players who they don’t know and never met. First of all, they wouldn’t know who they should contact, and where they could find them (not everyone knows etf2l, and even if they do, they most certainly don’t read the forums). Secondly, they could be too shy to contact someone, for several reasons. They could have a lack of english, kiddyvoice or simply be afraid of talking to foreign people.
The only problem would be -when the videos are uploaded- to promote the youtube channel. Every website and forums that contain TF2 stuff should somehow write about that channel. If someone would post it on steamforums and perhaps make a news at etf2l, tfportal.de, cadred, resupply, etc etc etc, the channel would certainly be promoted pretty fast.

In the videos the plan is too link to other resources, so that channel would probably be linked in the description and some others that show demo and soldier rollouts etc.

atm, I’m still looking for an intro, so if anyone can help add me on steam, I’m currently working through the episode lists and trying to get some people to help get some demonstrations sorted out etc.

If I get an intro soon we should have the first video within a few days of getting it.

I’m happy to contribute some stuff for medic info (I have quite a few demos lying around showing stuff as well because I was thinking of doing something like this a month or so ago), but could we expand it from 3 to 5 minutes or something? Even for a brief overview I don’t think I could fit it to 3 minutes.

Chris, me and WildCard have happily discussed an episode where it can be fit into 3-4 minutes.

This isn’t an in-depth guide but more of a brief introduction to the basics of the classes.

But add me on steam as I could do with some more medic related help, and in the future, if this is successful I guess we could and will probably do more advanced guides.
