I would say took valve long enough, but they are faster than most devs. Relic being the one that irks me the most.
Also its a matter of opinion that the updates make the game worse. Why not set up your own tournament which uses an earlier version, see how popular it is. I bet it will be real fun…

Actually, the main reason it won’t be popular at all is the amount of setting up it would require.
