Wait. You want to remove them since you can actually tell how much you hurt another entity in the pixel-world, as opposed to guessing — hence ‘lowering the skill-ceiling’?
Hahahahah… Oh, you were serious. Never mind.
I wouldn’t say skill ceiling per se, but for me what it removes is the thing Shintaz mentions, where you might be low, but since you don’t change your movement style/go aggressive, your opponent might think you’re still quite healthy, and you can bluff him away or into a predictable strafe, and if someone flees you won’t know EXACTLY how much (or little) hp they have, and based on what you observed you’ll make the decision whether or not to chase or to focus on another objective. These little elements of the game will be completely removed, which is why I’m kind of opposed to it.
edit: While not as radical, but a similar example, would be if every player got their medic’s überbar and the enemy medic’s überbar. This would also remove the ability to feign über, trick the opponent into thinking you have it/almost have it when you don’t, etc. Obviously this isn’t to such an extreme degree, and it’s not gamebreaking at all, so I’m not saying that. I’m asking for opinions gryzor, you don’t have to attack my view just because you disagree.

Don’t really mind having them or not. I just think it makes spread weapons like shotguns seem incredibly more random than I believed before. Anyone notice how random weapons like the shotgun/scattergun damage can be without damage spread on?
It seems to me like alot of the valve employees have been playing alot of borderlands. It gives off that kind of vibe. On a serious note, they need to show critical hits and there should be a way to modify it in the multiplayer options.
Oh, is that why the ‘critical hit’ sprite isn’t showing up for me now I’ve got damage text turned on?
If you have the time / brain capacity to register and calculate that by raising your eyes in a scatterbattle while doing the other 5-6 separate things (including voicecomms), Beserker, I humbly apologize for my ignorance and think YOU should be allowed to.
I could never pull that off, but then again, I’m crap — and male.
I would welcome people looking above my head for large green/yellow/blue flying numbers and doing simple 1st grade mathematics while we were having a shootout.
so the FaN is not banned and you want to ban this?

Well, you can do some quick math. If you see 55 and 61 pop-up I ain’t calculating its 116, but I see 50 and 60 which makes a 110. Aka pistol time instead of reloading for another scatter shot.

The hud can be modified so the damage is right next to your crosshair, so you’ll receive the damage done without any additional effort, even if you don’t want to know how much damage you did. This means you will just always know, without any additional effort, exactly how weak a player is. In addition to this you can comm it to your team with great precision. Obviously, as I said, it’s not really gamebreaking, and it doesn’t alter anything on a large scale. I don’t really mind it, but I did prefer it before (although obviously not gonna disadvantage myself. :D).
I never noticed the X/Y positioning of it, just that you could change the color/size. That would, of course, put the whole thing in another perspective.
I don’t think it’s really an issue, after a good time playing you can make accurate calls almost 100% of the time in regards to health, as for the scout mindgames, eh, I can still run for health and stuff, just makes it harder work
I’d like to see damage numbers removed as well – simple explanation:
Perfect information removes too much game depth.

i noticed this too. a shot from the scattergun will do 8dmg one time then the exact same shot can do like 30 the next time
Great scatter posts without contribution to the topic at all.
I dont like damage numbers in pcw’s. However, its usefull when i warmup.
