I posted this over on gotfrag but I figured it might get more feedback here since I think its a good idea that could help benefit the competitive TF2 scene
I got bored last night after playing l4d2 and realized how convenient an ingame matchmaking lobby is and wondered why it hadn’t been done for TF2.
This isnt to replace IRC by any means nor do much more than be able to set up pickup games easier as well as make sure the other team has 6 before they waste your time in the server.
Its just concept art I mocked up in photoshop but I think the game could use something like this to get more players involved in competitive tf2.
For me the matchmaking system was the main reason not to buy l4d2. Long time to wait to get a game (lobbyleaders are afk most of the time), the crappy servers (high ping or very low server fps) and of course retards that dont have a clue. Only fun games i played way back in l4d was with friends on a private dedicated server with mumble.

No need to use it
I quite like the idea, could be nice for setting up mixes, just don’t make it “matchmaking”..
But then, also a bit pointless, since you can do it just as easily with voice comms + IRC
Why would it be more popular as the pickup channels? Biggest problem i see is everyone always wants to play scout or demoman. The average soldier playing pickups is really shit. So whats the fun playing medic when your soldiers fail and you are flanked all over the map by high skilled ninja scouts.

It would probably allow `pubbers` to play some 6v6 matches without breaking a sweat.
Quite like the idea for the general public, but not for the competitive scene itself.
yeah this wasnt with the intent to replace irc or anything. I pug all time time outside of irc just using the ingame voice when im map testing or just screwing around.
I def think it could help the competitive scene by allowing more casual players to create their own pugs with their friends and get used to the playstyle without having to download the match cfgs and stuff.
I also hate waiting in servers for people to get 6 and having to alt tab in game which breaks things (expect ppl to tell me to run windowed mode) but yeah this kinda eliminates that.

ye run in a fullscreen window, with -noborder in your launch options.
also, it looks pretty damn good what youve done there.

the US community seems to be more into it. I think an alternative to idling IRC channels can only bring good things. It would just to get quick pugs with your friends only and get rid of having to rely on getting good teams.
Could help get new players into comp which I think is what we need for this game to survive.

This!
It’s a fantastic idea, and I think it would really help people get into 6v6 easier. There are a lot of pubbers who want to play TF2 at a higher level but cba to install IRC & Mumble.
sounds good for pub players trying to get into comp,
would need to set up some class limits etc, or else have some engi fights on mid xD

Yup, and have the option to run the latest ETF2L config fetched from ETF2L.org (so that Valve won’t fall behind)
Also, the ability to ban certain unlocks.
Why fix something that’s not broken?
