Installed windows 7 and my autoexec.cfg isn't working?

I copied my steam folder on to an external hd then back on to my computer (it was upgraded from xp).
Every thing works perfectly apart from this. Any suggestions? I’ve tried deleting it and starting a new one. I’ve tried using the autoconfig launch option to clear then removing it?
It just acts as if I have no autoexec.cfg.
Make sure when you save it you save it as type “all types” as opposed to “text documents”.
If you save it as the latter you get autoexec.cfg.txt :P
