i think most people started thinking TF2 was dead or stopped caring about it when our best shot at fame in the esports business failed hardly: UKeSA.

I like lans.
Everyone does… :) But we’re not continuing to play TF2 because its LAN scene is thriving, are we?
I guess the more appropriate term would be “I like competitive gaming”.
And there’s actually quite a few lans coming up.
– i38, England
– Dreamhack Winter 09, Sweden
– Assembly Winter 10, Finland
– Crossfire, Holland
Saying these lans don’t mean anything because there’s no prize money or because it’s played 5v5 would be the same as not caring about ETF2L imo.
I disagree there.
If TCM were to attend the LANs outside of England, one of two things would have to happen. TCM as an organisation would have to pay for each player to attend, which would total nearly £1000 in flights alone. I don’t think our recent activity really warrants such a present. Alternatively each of the English players in our lineup would have to fork out nearly £400 in total for a weekend LAN event. That’s the price of a good week’s holiday in Spain or similar. Good luck with that numlocked and Predz, neither of which have a job!
Naturally i38 is different because we have a majority English team now. Evil isn’t available on that date as he’s on holiday but hopefully we’ll still be attending.
Playing in ETF2L on the other hand costs nothing and that is why it’s been so successful.

I’d take one weekend of hanging out with the e-m8s over winning a hundred league games any day. I don’t see how that, according to OP, makes me qualify as a laughing-stock within the community.
Yeah of course I agree with that, TCM are going on a non LAN weekend holiday in the next few months with any luck actually :D
I disagree with your sentiments that it’s the same as not caring about ETF2L though. It’s different reasons entirely from my POV – one is ego, one is money.
