Don’t bother with win7/vista I’ve just reinstalled xp after using win7/vista for about 2-3 months and all it did was frustrate me re tf2 it never felt right, it always felt laggy ie ping and also pc lag. reinstalled xp last night and everything is perfect :p
Windows XP is an 8 year old OS. Seriously, it is time to mooove ooon. Win7 is a solid stable now, and its much quicker than vista.
well apperantly its not solid, as it has same lag as vista + lag spikes for some doods

Probably the best choice indeed.
And yes, cplmousefix DOES NOT work for windows 7.
Did you have this in launch options, ‘-window -noborder’? I had slight mouse delay til i started running TF2 in full screen.
i set my hl.exe priority to low, fixes the ping issue, assuming you have the same problem as I, you will get occasional freezes tho

Dunno, I’m using Win7 Proffesional 64-bit for a month now on my laptop and haven’t noticed any performance drops. TF2 was running fine on my 32-bit XP (even better than Win7 Ultimate 64-bit RC) untill Halo update, after that it was unplayable (>20fps). I tried to reinstall TF2, XP, used fps configs but nothing worked so I gave Win7 a try and for unknown reason it fixed the problem.
I dunno lads. I kinda think you prefer what your used to. People have been using XP for ages now, therefore you are more used to it over Vista & Windows 7.
Drivers are an issue on Windows 7, because some of them are still in beta ;[
I use a vista/xp acceleration fix file at the moment, and I could upload if you wanted.
Make a .reg file and put the following in to REMOVE acceleration:
* Backup your reg value! *
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_USERS.DEFAULTControl PanelMouse]
“SmoothMouseXCurve”=hex:00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,a0,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,40,
01,00,00,00,00,00,00,80,02,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,05,00,00,00,00,00
“SmoothMouseYCurve”=hex:00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,66,a6,02,00,00,00,00,00,cd,4c,
05,00,00,00,00,00,a0,99,0a,00,00,00,00,00,38,33,15,00,00,00,00,0

Bullshit. I think you’re just to conservative and dont want anything different than XP so your mind just trick you into believing something is wrong, ala placebo effect.
Anyways, I dont understand whats wrong with your acceleration. I just unchecked that “increase pointer precision” (or something like that) on control panel and I’m not getting any accel. Maybe that’s becouse I use w7 Ultimate?
P.S.: I really dont get any acceleration. Tried it a million times both in and out of game. No accel whatsoever.
a gained a good 20 fps moving from xp to win 7 64bit… and my logitech drivers can easily remove the mouse acceleration without forcing me to work on registries

No, drivers are not an issue.
a) beta drivers tend to be pretty stable
b) you can use vista drivers without trouble, it’s the same driver model. The only performance difference would be with your graphics card, but both nVidia and ATI already released win7 drivers.

I had this problem also… Discoverd a mouse acceleration in-game. I double checked the windows mouse settings and made sure I didnt had acceleration on. I fixed this problem using a Logitech setpoint option where you can disable all native Windows drivers for mouse acceleration and the problem is gone. So even when I never used windows mouse acceleration I still had it in-game.. Thank god setpoint had this option or I would be forced to move back @xp also.
For the rest; All windows 7 drivers are working perfect here. I’ve had a lot of freezing screens in tf2 though. But they all happend during public play while I was still using interp 0.01 settings and I never used the fps max because I fail on remembering to put those in my cfg all the time :( So it will probably have something to do with that.
lol @ people saying the drivers are pretty stable.
Try reading the nvidia forums, 1000 posts about BSOD every 5 minutes. I had to use 185.xx drivers for my windows to even boot, cos I’d just get a corrupted registry when I installed 192.xx drivers.
