hey guys,

since a week or so I installed win7 x64 with up-to-date drivers.
clean steam install etc.

my ping is fine, and I don’t have stuff running in the background.
i got this weird lag but it’s not caused by network issues.

anyone else experienced this? im thinking to go back to xp :/

cheers

I’m running the same OS and it’s all fine, you getting any drops in the net graph at all? I found I had to up my rates in win7 (weird, tf2 did it for me before), or I got that sort of issue

Of course you did say it wasn’t network, so if that’s ruled out, I’m guessing drivers here

try to monitor cpu activity: some win7 services may cause extreme cpu activity and should be shut down.

atm, my cpu activity whenever I do anything stupid (moving cursos or a selecting any window and moving it around in circles) is still higher than normal, but in game everything performs just fine

if you play windowed and got aero on that forces vsync.

or it could be WARP, read this thread.

I’m still using the beta, but I’ve found that one program in particular gives me that ‘weird lag’ you speak off and that’s ‘wmpnetwork.exe’. You can terminate it by right clicking it and selecting ‘End Process Tree’, but it keeps starting up again. Keep doing it a few times (I think 3 times) and then it should stop for good until next reboot.
That or you can uninstall Windows Media Player and that should remove it. Hope this helps.

I’ve been using w7 x64 ultimate for about a month now and didnt notive any lag problems. I play full screen, so you might want to chenck out that windowed problem. Also, I uninstalled WMP and IE if that helps…

I have had Windows 7 x64 installed for 8 months and I haven’t had any problems with it.

Can you describe your ‘weird lag’? Does the game run fine for 20 seconds and then suddenly it lags and then it runs fine again? Or is the lag there all the time?

How is the lag like? Does the screen completely freeze for several seconds (or less than a second)? Can you see others move around while you lag?

revanxp

i’m using win7 x86 not x64 so i really don’t know how to help you.
Win7 is just working fine with tf2 and steam in general.
It’s not a os problem

The RTM is about 3 months old…
Haven’t got any ping trouble or lag on the x64 Pro version.

What are you talking about? XP is eyecandy. FFS. Just go back to using Windows 3.1 and save yourself the trouble.

Windows XP is an 8 year old OS. Seriously, it is time to mooove ooon. Win7 is a solid stable now, and its much quicker than vista.

Yes, I had it. And it forced me to quit and go back to windows XP as it completely ruined by ability to aim at stuff.

The only reason I found is that there’s acceleration, and ,since the famous “cplmousefix” isn’t updated to windows 7 yet, There’s no real way to fix that. I’m still going to follow this topic though… I’m sure windows 7 is better, shame it’s unplayable for me.

Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services
Look for WMPNetworkSvc > right click > properties > stop the service
Then in the startup type dropdown list > click disable, apply.

Also I had a problem with Windows 7, if you installed TF2 from a steam backup file it might also cause problems, as I had wierd mouse lag and huge loss (though you mentioned a clean steam install so this is just extra information) which didn’t go away until I deleted GCFs and redownloaded TF2.

I used the cplmousefix for Windows7, but I can’t tell if I sense the difference. I read in other ETF2L topics that the mousefix works on Win7? Could this cause our problem then, Pshyche?

I will look into the wmp service, but as far as I can see every wmp service is disabled so far…

It’s a bit weird to discribe the ‘lag’ but like psyche said it toally fucks your aim up because you are just too late. Other players seem to move normal. Also when you get healed by the med the health bar is not going smooth :d

tnx for all the input so far guys, appreciate it.

cheers
dig

p.s. using a cfg or not doesn’t make any difference
