Need more info. What’s the location of the server that you’re connected to?
Are you playing on a wireless router?

1. Close out any background program that ultilize internet…
2. Make sure no hidden spyware or virus using your bandwidth at background.

First find out where your latency problems come from.
Traceroute the server while nothing else is using the connection.
(On Windows the command is called “tracert”.)
Look for hops that jump up in ping.

What connection are you using? dsl, cable, …?
Do the problems only ocure at the same time of day, which points to an oversubscribed pop?
Is it to all servers or only one? Only to the same country?

How much ping increase are you seeing?
I mean, i would be pissed also, if my ping went up from 5 to 10ms. Thats fucking doubled…

Try turning off “interleaving” on your connection if the option is available in ISP settings. This should always reduce ping by about 20-50ms.

If it’s not an option you can send a support ticket to ISP asking them to turn it off (say it’s for gaming/voip purposes so you’d like minimal latency).

Turning off interleaving will reduce your max download speed though. Google it and do some reading to find out about it.

http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/interleaving.htm

“BT state that interleaving can increase latency by an additional 20-40ms. Whilst this will not be noticeable to the vast majority of users, ardent gamers are the ones most likely to complain about additional latency and therefore prefer a slower synch speed than higher latency.”
