Packet loss issue.

Hello,
I’m aware this couldn’t be the best place to talk about but I’ve suffering some really bad Packetloss issues in tf2.
This happens in every server I play on. Ping is good, framerate is over 60 and stable. Despite all these good conditions every 10 seconds I suffer some hard “lag spikes” that raise my PL to values over to 20. After 1-2 seconds the situation then turns back to normal.
I have observed how this happens on every server i play with (happens to .it servers, but .uk as well etc..). Also the strangest thing is that Counterstrike is not affected by this, as well some other games. Also using a different connection the problem disappears.
Googling around I found that someone added these to their autoexec, and fixed a similar problem. This helped me a bit, still sometimes I still get PL (but it’s much lower).

Possibly anyone experienced this? What could be done?
My system is:
Laptop Asus Dual core processor 1.9ghz
4gig ram
geforce 9650 gt (1gb ram)
using m0rehud config (netcode settings too, but the problem happened also using a default cfg).
As for the connection I’m on a fiber cable conn (20mbit dl 10mbit up). The signal gets into a modem, then the signal passes thru a switch and in the end onto a Wireless router. I have tried bypassing the switch/wireless but nothing changed.
Thoughts:
Pc works fine. TF2 is the only one game affected with pl. Changing connection solves the problem.
Could it be some router firewall interfering? Some TF2 setting?
Ignore anything anyone tells you and just take what i say as the absolute truth
It’s you’re bad internet, i have the same and have just put up with it for the last 3/4 years. Just goto lan and dominate, that’s what i do.
– lowering rates can help, but don’t bet on it

WTF? How can server side cvars used on the client fix the problem?
One thing you can try:
1) Launch the game
2) Type clientport 27008
3) Connect to a server, see if you still have the problem.

I have to say I agree. Although i’d say test first before jumping right on that bandwagon. If it was just source games i’d agree but if its JUST TF2, then its not nescessarily the net connection thats the problem. Also that sounds like a nice connection you have (assuming thats your ACTUAL speed and not what BT/Virgin said your getting).
If you have DODS, go check that (simply because it runs the exact same version of the source engine as TF2 does).
If you want to do a packet drop test, add me on steam.
NVC, im not disagreeing with you, I just think theres enough evidence thats not the case that he should at least make sure.
Yeah the weird thing is that this happens only to TF2. Any other game runs fine. And I can absolutely say this connection is good.
cl_updaterate 33
cl_cmdrate 33
rate 25000might help.
Might not.
With such low rates you’ll probably get a big difference between client and server. That is, you hit the scouts head, there’s blood and everything, but scout is still alive or you get 3 meatshots on demoman and he nades you. Stuff like that…
Lowering these settings didn’t help either. And as the last poster said, i get tons of non-regs.
i used to have the same problem,
if you have windows this should fix the problem:
go to control panel -> administrative tools -> services -> look for wireless zero configuration -> then just disable it, make sure u disable it for good by switching startup type to manual.
have fun! :)
-I was on orange broadband
-I had this EXACT same problem (Including CSS with little loss)
-I changed ISP and its been great every since.
