Ok guys here the story. I was testing something with a div 3 team (ExS, my ex team.)
2 days ago, they played imperial on grana and fastlane. When i came to the server they were being raped like 8-0 on grana. (imp 8 . exS 0). Some members were thinking to leave the game… “it is useless to play the second”…”i’m fed up”….
So i told them to test something, the principe is here:
I went into a spectator slot and watched them playing. I watched only exS, honnestly. if i saw something like a scout behind i didn’t told them until they see by themselves. I mean i had the same eye as the exS during the game. But, i told them the strategy, where to place, when to push, when to back cap etc.
cos’ without playing it was easy to focus on the strategy. The result is that they drew imperial in fastlane. They enjoyed playing at their best. They didnt rage, and made less errors. They make some pretty ninja cap… etc etc etc.
Now the idea.
As robin walker said in the last interview is that they wanted to help the competitive community.
It would be awsome to have a special slot for each teams. called “manager slot”. The leader in-game could join blue or red manager’s slot that allow only to spec his team. And just make the strategy like it was in quake 3.
The thing:
– 1 slot manager for red
-1 slot manager for blue
-its only allow the manager to have the in-eyes of his team, and may be something good is to add the percent of uber permanently on bottom of the screen.
The manager could lead easily and make improve the team.
It could rejoin the mentor’s project and reinforce the gameplay in tf2!
Make your comments!
why not? good idea
sounds like a good idea
+1
This is akin to the ‘Coach red’ or ‘Coach blue’ function in UTComp for ut2k4, and I’m sure other fps’ have done it too.
While I have no experience calling in TF2 I used to call alot of the tactical side in NS and the hardest thing about comming is not the actual calls, but thinking the calls while playing at a decent level. While I think tf2 isn’t as complex I still think this requires alot of skill. Adding this would take away alot of that skill and that is a skill which can make a team stronger then another. I think it’s a bad idea imo…
would be much more interesting if it was a new class, “commander”
he would have, for example 125 hp and be slow and so on, but would have a map, that, for example, tracks the players he saw in the last minute and has the information on enemy classes and so on. but it’s only my dreams, I think
ahah why not, But think to it, the manager leading really let the players play on their best, and it don’t retire the thing that they have to think!
And think about the mentor’s project. It could really take a form!
ow and think to the rage! when i tested, the rage, and wanting to leave the game dissapeared, they all like the game and some low players learnt many things!
it just need someone experienced liking to help.
This sounds pretty good acually :o
No need for it!
Some teams dont need it, because they have a good caller,
so it would prefer only teams lacking a caller.
Anyway who wants to spec 3-4 matches a day without killing someone (or healing).
I think the player can change, it could not be the same leader every time (or if he likes!)
I see what GibbZ is saying, though the benefits to the mentor project would be huge.
I can’t see it being a regular thing to have someone as a “manager” but it can be alright if you have that extra player online etc.
Seems a “nice” idea but I don’t think the games needs it. I think it would come to a team recruiting an experienced caller, someone to call regularly (for those not so fussed about actually playing anymore) then the players are almost robots. It will make players about fragging skill (which at a higher level doesn’t even differ that much between players across div 1/2) but it’s the teamwork and leadership that brings a team out on top.
I think it might cause more harm than good to the scene, while being a fair idea in theory.

So basically add in a useless class that has a minimap…
Been thinking about this for a long while, and actually thought I wrote a forum post about it (I didn’t though).
But for a Quickfix, wouldn’t it be possible to make a script that makes a player dead the whole match? Don’t know how it should be fixed, or if it’s possible, but then you won’t have the problem with people speccing the other team etc.
Amazing idea anyways, thumbs up!
