tf2 giving low fps despite good rig

Bare in mind it might be your PSU – which I would think it is, as you mentioned using a FPS config does not result in significant gain in performance.
480w might not be giving your components enough headroom supply to work with in extreme load cases – and since TF2 is (regardless) a CPU intensive game your juice might be all used up.
Also check for dust in heatsinks and stuff, i religiously cleaned one of my 4850’s (took heatsink off, into parts and so on – probably best not to do that if you don’t know what you’re fiddling with) and i gained a rather fair amount of boost; but there was a fair amount of dust in there to begin with :3.

ill try cleaning it, but it hasnt been in there for very long. but still (( ^^ )) any way for me to ” check ” if it is my psu ? like a program or smth ?
your rig is better than mine.
My gpu is 8600 gt and ive got 2gb 667mhz ram.
I really dont understand why you cant run tf2 at high graphics.
i mean do you keep drivers updated?
pc clean?
defrag and stuff?
you might be thinking “what has this got to do with tf2” but having a clean pc dramatically increases the speed of you cpu etc.
Also just thought of this it might help, check to see if youv’e got vsync off so its not trying to cap your fps limit.
You have an awful CPU, simple as that. kthanxbai
I have the same gfx and get about 60fps at max settings on 1920×1200.
TF2 is shitely coded, simple as.
Negative. The engine base code is what I call “Messy”

Stop, no, stop right there. Hold that thought….
….
Damn, can’t find the link. Anyway, I was going to post, Toms Hardware did a test of this. Bassically, they managed to run a overclocked Q6600 and 2x 8800GT’s in SLI 100% stable on a 450watt power supply (Corsair VX450).
Im not having a go at you personally, just saying. Theres a massive misunderstanding about whats needed Power Supply wise. Anything 600watt is normally overkill for any system. 450watt is perfectly fine for what he has there as long as its decent quality PSU.

Not really, compared to other engines such as Crytek engine its a piece of art. Really, The source engine is very very clean comparatively. The netcode isn’t great but the rest is great.

Yes, but its better to have more than not enough, currently i have a Corsair 700W not because i need it but because it was only about £20 more than a 500W and i decided that I may need 700W in the future.

The Crytek engine is just… pointless, its overkill and it was made to be overkill :)

Aye I agree, but Tom’s Hardware always use really high quality components, and it *could* still be the PSU if there isn’t enough current on the 12V rails, which was my intended point – obviously not well conveyed :3
I just don’t understand why CS:S will run capped at 150 with no drops at all and TF struggles to run at 66 and drops all the time to 20-30…
Actually I just figured out – the good running game in your link has a 2MB cache, our CPUs have 1MB total.

wut ? didnt get what you meant really lawl. well i’ve sortof found a sollution, i’ve gone into task manager and set priority to realtime. works good now, will still try cleaning it just in case that lowers my fps too : ) thanks for all responds! except skinnies one ! :DDDD
Actually I don’t know anything about cache.
