Just registered with the forums and thought I would make a quick topic to say hi and ask a few questions I have.

Firstly, a little about me: I used to play TFC quite a bit and was in clans such as [HA] and [-M8-] to name a couple if anyone can remember them. Have been playing TF2 on and off since it came out but due to other commitments such as uni have never ventured back into the clan scene. Am on holiday now with alot of time on my hands and therefore thought I would try and find an equivalent for the uktfcl forums / community, it seems this is it!

I recognise quite a few names floating about the place from uktfcl times and the FF beta, nice to see so many people still playing team fortress.

I just wondered if anyone could tell me about a clanstyle public server if one exists. I’m thinking along the lines of the old CTFCL server for TFC where clanrules were enforced by a bunch of right-wing dictators (!?) and the standard of play was very high but where you could join and leave as you wish.

I daresay I will join a few pickup channels and try a couple of clanstyle games too although I have a nasty feeling that I will notice a severe change in skill level from public play and will get my arse handed to me.

Thanks,
magzy

Welcome to ETF2L :)

Yes, it’s the biggest and arguably the best TF2 league on the planet.

Such servers exist, but they aren’t very popular.

Don’t worry about it, the games are generally noob-friendly. Don’t take it personally if some idiot rages at you. Just remember to read and follow the rules and then you’re pretty much good to go. Just make sure you’re at least distantly familiar with all the classes and most of the maps.

Join the etf2l public server. Only been up for a couple of days now. It’s no crits, but not 6v6 -> it’s 12v12. Only people registered on etf2l can join that server, so skill pretty high compared to normal pubs.

Also, there’s no usual 6v6 rules such as class limits, sandman banned etc. Also the gameplay is radically different. It’s basically just another pub, but the people aim better and have a little bit of teamwork going on.

But it’s definitely recommended if you don’t mind that it’s not really an equivalent to a practice clan war.

Yeah I noticed that after I made the topic lol. Will give it a go tomorrow. Thanks for the replies.

Hi magzy. welcome to tf2! there’s nothing comparable to the CTFCL server since TF2 has different game mechanics thus it doesn’t have gentlemen agreements for backtracking/midmapping etc. so I suggust reading the link posted aboved^ and try a pickup. that’s where the clanscene is preparing – apart from clanwars and mixes! publics are just for the fun and good for a laugh :> Oh and don’t worry asking for help. this community is by far more friendlier and less elitism to the one you used to know.

best regards

magzy

Great, thanks for the replies guys. Have read the article, helped quite a bit, might be burdening a pickup team with my presence soon.

Hey Norris, I remember quite a few intense games between [HA] and [AF] from years ago :D .

Norris

;D tfc was all about hate and emotions. it was really intense especially between the our teams. can’t think of a single game which ended up in a “gg” ;p nonetheless, we all love it, no? :)

magzy

Yeah there was alot of hate in TFC, who knows, maybe after another 5 years TF2 will be like that :) .

I remember going one cap ahead and then going 6-7 D a few times lol.

#mpuktf2.pickup

Skill level doesn’t matter, just play as many as you want, they happen very very often.

pukz

hey magzy good to see another face from tfc, when will E-sports learn that TF is the best fps team format on the planet? :E
