I am loving what they’ve added to pingtimeout! Is there anywhere I can get this plugin for my own server?
Mike has posted it on alliedmodders. I’ll get the link when I’m home. (or you could ask MikeJS at #tf2instagib)
Cool, but quite useless imo. There pretty much is a hitsound in the weapons, and you can even hear the amount of damage (sorta). Don’t think there are the regular screams in the vid tho?
stock weapon hitsounds are completely useless in tf2. they vary so wildly and are so unreliable as to be pointless, you can’t tell me that you can estimate how much damage you’ve done by sound alone.
i’m not sure whether hitsounds are necessary/suitable for tf2, but when you compare what cpma uses (or even vq3) you cannot really maintain that tf2 has functioning hitsounds.
my gut feeling is that more information/feedback to the player is always a good thing, so who knows maybe we’ll see valve adding a cvar for cpma-style, damage-variable hitsounds.
As an oldschool Q3 gamer I agree with this, I wouldn’t mind hitsounds but its just not the same as Q3 where the falloff is non-existant etc. As for spamming around corners etc.. Don’t you usually hear the players screaming whenever you hit?
Yeah, in my opinion the game has already hitsounds- it’s just a bit different to the quake ones. :)
Anyway, the hitsound on the pingtimeout server is more annoying than helpful for me at the moment. (wish I would know which file I need to delete to get rid of these sounds again)

/hitblips in chat.
tada.
/hitblips in chat.

It turns off the hit sounds..
That’s what you wanted isn’t it?
…Server must have a mod on it or something.
PingTimeoutDM have hit sounds, which is a mod. Type /hitblips in chat to turn them off…
Of course it’s a mod..
…
Install Metamod (also create VDF) and Sourcemod. Then you need to get tf2damage and compile the hitblip plugin, then put both in your plugins directory.
If there’s lot of interest in it, maybe I could try to get something similar in TFTrue (would remove the need of metamod/sourcemod, and already has some things for comp play).
This is sort of hitsound related.
Do characters have different pain sounds based on their health, or are the different pain sounds played randomly?
Pain sounds are random AFAIK.
