Sniping, Any CSS and TF2 players? Help Needed!

Hey there, coming from a CSS competitive background me and a few mates have begun playing TF2, I actually have aiming/sens problems with the sniper when zoomed in and I’m wondering about any possible fixes to this.
For instance I feel that on CSS using the AWP I can consistently ‘flickshot’ and aim accurately, the sniper seems way off and unpredictable, whether this is some form of hidden mouse accel or something to do with my settings.
I run 1800 DPI and 0.666666 sens ingame, both CSS and TF2, im wondering if perhaps TF2 understands sensitivities less than 1, could this perhaps be my problem (some games dont).
I’m really open to any suggestions as to why my aim feels so strange and unpredictable when sniping, any help or solutions will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
I’ve played CSS before, not in a competitive way but still, here’s my input:
In CSS everyone moves at the same speed, in tf2, however, that does not happen.
You’re most likely used to sniping people which move at:
– A constant speed
– Same speed as you
In TF2 you have different speeds, each class moves at it’s own pace and you have to have that in mind in my opinion, you have to adapt to tf2 if you’re coming from CSS. As far as I know, and as I’ve noticed myself is I suffer the same problem, even after I’ve played tf2 for almost an year. I still sometimes miss shots cos I was used to sniping ppl moving at MY speed, and thus I get a false idea of when to shoot. You’ll get used to it eventually, just watch the characters movements closely and pay more attention, maybe you can practice on maps like tr_aim or even pubs. Everything works tbh, just play the game as sniper and you’ll eventually get used to it.
Hope I helped -> Sorry for the wall of text.
Try aiming for the head, it’s always the first port of call :)
Tf2 is just different, you’ll have to get used to it
I agree,
the transition is hard and takes some getting used to,
but eventually you will get used to the charged shot/headshot/classes/… and it will go much easier.
also a good gamesense is really important.
you have to be aware and be able to predict paths,…
also the vertical action is hard getting used to,
you have flying soldiers,
jumping drunkards flying all over the place,…
I totally take on board what you guys are saying, but i have the strangest feeling that when doing my ‘flicks’ its like a brand new sensitivity, simply curious as to if its all in my head or if other people have experience of this :)
Play around with your zoom_sensitivity_ratio perhaps? There is no accel using the scope if it’s off with other classes and so on. I stand my point though, your muscles have to get used to the new game. I bet in a few weeks what you’re feeling will go away.
I suck shit at sniping and suck shit at css, but any chance it has something to do with the differences in fov?
You have a modifier called zoom_sensitivity_ratio . What this does, is when you’re zoomed it change your sensitivity to (sensitivity * zoom_sensitivity_ratio). Maybe your ratio differs between CSS and TF2?
acceleration is the devil.
having played CSS I presume you’ve got all semblance of acceleration removed in your configs.
you could also try -noforcemaccel as a launch command, which should make it use your desktop acceleration settings.
Also, yeah I’ve got like 1-day worth of experience playing with the AWP and don’t even snipe in tf2, but from what I have played around with them; they are really a lot more different than they look. Have a look-see if you can notice any acceleration with, say, scout. Because tis probably just you needing to adjust :p
Cheers for all the replies guys, will have a play-around with it tomorow morning, thanks!
ok now I’m interested.
I am a terrible sniper compared to the amount of time I’ve spent playing it… thats because somehow I USED to be pretty good but from when I started playing only scout or soldier or medic in scrims (never touching the assassin again).
Point is I always read about this zoom sensitivity thing and I get how it should work but any career sniper caring to share opinions and actual numbers in the cfg about this?
I could perform some good shots sometimes but I end up missing cause maybe my sens is too high and I screw up when its the moment to scope in
When I first started playing this game (coming from scoutzknivez in CSS) I thought sniper would have been my class. But like you, I don’t aim, I flickshot. Gave up on sniping after 30 hours of pathetic results. If you do find something to make the aiming like CSS, please share :)
