Mouse Accel

Just before picking up TF2 a break, I stopped using mouse accel in quake engine games (cpma and qw) in order to become accustomed to its absence in the source engine.

After some digging around some commands came to light which seem to quantify accel – m_customaccel_*.

It would be great to be able to play with a similar setup to before, but the problem is I can’t figure out how to convert accel between engines. While transferring sensivitity is the trivial task of keeping a set length per 360, measuring accel is proving more troublesome.

In q3 & qw I used m_accel 0.1 and after trying various values for exponent, scale and max I failed to reach anything remotely similar.

If anyone knows how I could solve this either post it up here or pm me on irc/steam, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Personally id advise you to stay with mouse accell off but i think its personal preference.

The only thing i can think to do is fiddle with these commands:
m_customaccel "0"
m_customaccel_scale "0.00"
m_customaccel_max "0"
m_filter "0"
m_mouseaccel1 "0"
m_mouseaccel2 "0"

Hope this helps

This is just an assumption here as I know nothing about how these commands work in TF2, but it would make sense that m_mouseaccel1 and m_mouseaccel2 determine the point (or mouse movement speed) at which a multiplier of mouseaccel kick into effect.

From Wikipedia:

“For example, versions of Windows prior to Windows XP doubled reported values above a configurable threshold, and then optionally doubled them again above a second configurable threshold. ”

In XP and later OS its not simply a doubling effect, but these commands in TF2 might be for that purpose, so try leaving the second one at zero and mess around with the first, see if that gets you anywhere.

Also as far as I know (but I may well be wrong on this) the same accel setting will have a different effect when using different dpi and/or different screen resolution. Maybe try setting screen res to the same you have in Quake if it’s not already?

Hey dats!

accel is for noobs…..

like cypherr and fojji

Yeah JH, those guys aim like shit :D

appe

mouse acc ftw, how am I supposed to rj with my crazy low sens without it?

Appe, are you serious ?
Are you actually using mouse acc. ?

Well, I guess it might be good if you are used to it then.
If I use mouse acceleration and try to turn around I seem to be looking in a completely random direction afterwards. It must be very hard to get used to the acceleration.

I use semi-acceleration. But I can’t get the right quake settings :(

Wiiking

good old Pjonkan in my old team used 12 sens with normal mouse acc if i remember right.

Mouse accel ftw? Wut? Are you crazy? Sniping became 10x easier when I turned it off )in windows, TF2 and mouse drivers) and rocketjumping is… well yeah it’s a bit harder then before, but nothing unbareable.

Also thanks for the help KOVACS, I guess I’ll have to do a little more digging into this than I had planned to it. If I do make any grand discoveries I’ll be sure to post them here (don’t hold your breath though).

In fact one of the most intersting points of accel was that it was directly affected by m_pitch/yaw, which is why so many players tweaked those values when it seemed superficially redundant to do so.

Damn, thats pretty interesting stuff, but I am finding it so hard to follow.

exm

I’m using bybben’s cfg, but cant understand few commands:

m_side “0.8”
m_yaw “0.022”
m_pitch “0.022”
m_forward “1”
m_customaccel “0”
m_customaccel_scale “0.04”
m_customaccel_max “0”
m_customaccel_exponent “1”
m_mouseaccel1 “0”
m_mouseaccel2 “0”
m_mousespeed “1”

These give me the most worry, becouse they’re mouse (am I right?) settings. Can someone clarify atleast some of those?

I hope everybody knows that if you have Logitech or Razers program installed you have mouseacc…

Maybe they have fixed it but for half a year ago I tested it with my MX518. I had mouseacc even if i had turned it off in the program, windows and the game.

SO JUST INSTALL THE DRIVER, NOT THE PROGRAM.

Anathema

Dunno about logitech, razer has an option to turn it off though ;)
