When you use your medigun charge, the charge drains from 100% to 0%. When you die and drop your medigun, it keeps whatever charge is remaining. This isn’t really news for anyone who used and died mid-kritz.

However the same goes for picking up another medigun while the charge is draining! Simply pick up any other medigun to cancel the charge and pick it back up to retain whatever charge was in it.

This happened by accident when the enemy medic was killed and I was bombed by a soldier who forced my ubercharge. I was curious about their kritz, picked it up and saw they had 0% and picked up my own medigun again, which had 70% uber in it. This won us a round on viaduct.

It felt pretty cheap. Discuss?

Anything that has to do with the whole medigun pickup imo just makes people think more about what consiquences their actions will have. And thank god for that. Its not just brainless dm fest afterall.

I think it’s super rare that you happen to find an enemy medi gun as you are popping and not wanting to use it fully after all. Basically your scenario is the only way this could happen.

But that scenario happens every time you kill the med and have uber. And even more so on viaduct. You always have aggression onto you once their med dies.

But you still have 8 seconds (or less, depends if you were forced to flash as well) to pick up the other medigun to make any use of it. Also it would be quite dangerous to not have uber on you in case the bomber(s) haven’t died yet. I could see it may have a use in Viaduct perhaps, but on other maps the distances are too long. Also, the other medigun might just have more uber anyway.

E: Now that I think about it, I could see it as a potential way to bait the bomber on to you if you are just sitting next to the enemy medigun.

And a medic can reduce this risk even more by switching weapons if he gets pressured/bombed/whatever.

Depends, if you think you can hold onto the location, do drop your own medigun so you can pick it up again!

But that is not the issue at hand, the problem is being able to cancel an ubercharge and retaining the uber% the moment it was switched with another medigun on the field.

I like it a lot to be honest. Finally something else to do rather than running away/popping ubers/healing. There is a lot more strategy involved when using your advantage or being at a disadvantage.

Casino

The whole medigun mechanic just feels really cheap whether or not I’m benefiting from it or feeling the pain because of it.

Having been on both sides of it many times now I just think it feels wrong being able to pickup your ubercharge % again after you died if you died close enough to spawn.

It feels wrong to pick up another medics uber % when he dies having done virtually nothing myself to earn it.

Not to mention that this change totally breaks ultiduo because everytime a medic dies as a result of the other’s uber you get a free 20-70% so you just end up snowballing out of control because you basically always have uber when it matters.

I dunno maybe I’ll come to like the change and maybe I’m the only who still hates it but I don’t think it actually adds anything to the game apart from a sense that I’m cheating.

pull out the crossbow before you die?

You can always agree with enemy team not to pickup each other’s Medigun (Gentleman’s agreement) and tell an Admin about such agreement. If that is possible of course, to agree on not doing something that is allowed.

If you fuck up and give the opposing team your uber, or let them take theirs back after a failed push…
Its your mistake to fix and prevent it next time.

Brings more aspects to the game. Whats there not to love?

I played some pickups and officials as medic and it’s honestly a really fun mechanic. Adds a lot of depth to the uber game, and rewards good decision making.

– Whenever I die, I assume that the other medic picked up my medigun unless he already had an uber advantage or I can be sure that he didn’t pick it up.
– I make a decision if it’s worth picking up the medigun based on risk reward.
– Dropping the enemy medic is a completely different scenario now. It’s often more rewarding to just uber to get to his position to pick up the new medigun with full uber, instead of playing passively and staying alive for the suicide plays.
– Dropping uber fucks your team up way more now. I think it’s a good thing because the other team can really capitalise on it.
– Denying the medigun isn’t always worth it. Because the other team doesn’t really gain anything from picking up your medigun if they have equal or uber advantage except having to build two guns, which gives you more time to build the uber yourself after you spawned. In other cases, if you don’t deny your drop you can respawn and just pick it up again if your team came on top of that engagement.

P.O.P

the argument “it furthers the complexity of the game” just doesn’t hold up. i mean, that was said for the quickfix as well, and the game got crazy binary within a couple weeks. this is likely the same. this adds to the game, sure, but it also overpowers aspects of the game rendering them obsolete. so end result might be a less complex game

This turned off-topic quick, nobody bothers to read the OP these days?

I’m specifically talking about the ability to cancel an ubercharge mid-charge by picking up another medigun and then picking up your own medigun again keeping whatever uber% was in it when you dropped it mid-charge.

Also Valve should remove the cheat flag from tf_dropped_weapon_lifetime so normal server cfgs can change this (eg ultido can easily ban medigun pickups). Or ask AnAkkk to do it inside tftrue since everyone has that plugin anyway.
