Strange fps "spikes"

Hi,
First I want to know why am I having super low fps on medium class gamer PC.Settings are on high with no anti-aliasing and in a short period of time I get low fps (20) and it’s like my game just freezes. The only way to fix is to stay in one place in a couple of seconds and wait till the average fps gets 80-120.And second I want to know why, when this fps “spike” happens and I have pressed the key for my rj jump script, I start firing rockets constantly(like I have typed +attack in console).
PC specs:
Processor:Core 2 Duo E8200 2,66 ghz
GPU: Nvidia GeForce 9600 GT 512MB DDR3
RAM: 2 GB (1gb x 2 800Mhz)
HDD:250 GB
I think it’s the lack of memory. When my PC is in idle mode(only steam running,70 processes) my memory usage goes over 800 MB.Can someone help me and has anyone experienced this kind of problem before?
Thanks,
Atty
Could you post the rj script? I think I can imagine the problem there.
Here is the rj script :
//Rocket Jump
alias +rocketjump “+jump; +duck; wait; +attack”
alias -rocketjump “-jump; -attack; wait; wait; wait; -duck”
bind “v” “+rocketjump”
This ones working (edited and tried myself):
alias +rocketjump “+jump; +duck; wait; +attack”
alias -rocketjump “-attack; wait; -duck; -jump”
bind v +rocketjump
Tell the creator of your script that it isnt working :P
Got no idea about the fps spikes though.
Why would you want to use a script for rocketjumping? :>
do u get these spikes only with tf2? or also in other games or when watching a movie or something
I have the same problem, average 100 fps but randomly they drop under 10 for 5 secs, happens when playing every game. I tried installing new video drivers, I tried installing old drivers (downgrading), it didnt solve the problem. Someone told me that it could be either my OS (windows xp) or my hd dying.
@ Relentless : your script doesn’t work.
@ Syr: I have exactly the same problem.
It does, but notepad apparently has problems with the “” from the forums. Copypasta the script from here into the .cfg and replace the “” by setting your own with the keyboard, then it should work.
I’d give your case a good vacuum out. It sounds like something could be overheating, I had the same issue (Until I removed a hand full of dust from my fans/heatsinks :))
@ Relentless : Yey your script finally worked :) ty
@ ShoX : Last week my PC went for a preventive maintenance which means that the people from who I bought the PC , check and clean if the PC is working properly. They even changed my GPU fan because it was about to crash.
@ ViQun : I will do that later :)
I think I found the solution : you must enter fps_max 0 in console.Somehow my fps_max was set to 300 and it really optimized my fps.Now I get over 300 fps in a map with no players.I don’t get those “fps spikes” anymore but I will have to check tomorrow with Mumble running and tf2.
