connect 109.201.148.199:20074; password porkcharsiu

I can’t see this on the internet, but others can. It’s weird.

no

I can’t test from TF2, but I can connect to that host/port from telnet so something is listening there at least.

xxx@thrustreverser:~$ telnet 109.201.148.199 20074
Trying 109.201.148.199…
Connected to 109.201.148.199.
Escape character is ‘^]’.

Actually I can see it, I just can’t connect. Why might that happen?

Is it running a map? If you start a server without the +map startup param, the server will be up and listening for clients, but without a map it won’t let you in.
(same happens when you do give it a map, but that map doesn’t exist)

Okay, they did a ‘network reload’ and now I can connect. Strange business.

Firewall might have been accepted TCP packets but not UDP, or something similar at the network level? But if it’s fixed then meh!

I wonder… I have a process that connects and runs ‘status’ every 20 seconds or so (for months). Could that have been blocked by some semi-smart firewall?

Well connecting and disconnecting every 20 seconds might trigger IPS(Intrusion prevention system) if the hosting provider have once set up. But it’s unlikely.

Intrusion prevention system

Is that 2014-speak for “firewall”?

No
In short IPS works when/after its already inside, where as firewall blocks it getting through at all.
