Strange bug on first connect

Whenever I start TF2, the first time I connect to a server I’m stuck in spec and have to retry to fix it.
Happens every time now, anyone know what causes this/how to fix?
Write “spectate” in console, then hit your key bound to “change team” and it will work
typing “jointeam red” for example also fixes it
